Alchemy of Souls Season 2: Here’s Why Go Yoon-jung Needs To Lead Part 2 of the Kdrama

Alchemy of Souls season 2 has been confirmed to have Go Yoon-jung as the new female lead and while this is a good thing for Naksu, but not everyone is happy with having to say goodbye to their favourite Jung So-min.

There is no doubt that we are all attached to this wonderful actor who has played the role of Mu-deok, Naksu and Jin Bu-yeon all together. The talented actor has really wowed us with her work and it is quite hard to say goodbye to her after her wonderful performance in season 1 and the amazing chemistry that she has shown with Jang Uk (Lee Jae-wook).

However, it is necessary to understand that while Jung So-min has done an amazing job as Naksu, the real assassin has to come back for the show to go on. Before the premiere of season 1 of the show, the talks about part 2 were already known to all, which meant that we wouldn’t get a satisfying ending in part 1.

Season 1 of the show was meant to pave the way for season 2 and honestly speaking, the ending of the show wasn’t bad as compared to the cliffhangers that it could have given us.

While we still hope for Jung So-min’s return in order to witness a better ending for Jin Bu-yeon, the real female lead this whole time has been Naksu and her return in her real body was inevitable.

Jang Uk too has fallen in love with Naksu and no matter which body she is in, the person he will love is her soul, and we are looking forward to the chemistry that these two actors are going to show.

While it won’t be easy, Go Yoon-jung is a talented actor who won our hearts right at the beginning of episode 1 where she showed her badass character as Naksu. She started the show and even ended it with the preview of season 2 and there is no doubt that the actor who won our hearts in a matter of minutes at the beginning of season 1 can do it again.

It is necessary to emphasise that Mu-deok right now is a soul shifter which makes her prone to many dangers and it is important for her to return to normal. Jin Bu-yeon should get full control of her body again and Naksu should be freed from being scared of going wild.

Also, Jin Mu is capable of controlling a soul shifter which makes it more dangerous for her which gives another reason why Naksu needs to let go of this burden to get her revenge on Jin Mu.

So while it is hard to let go Jung So-min as Naksu, we have to accept that it is important for the upcoming season which will satisfy us greatly. However, we do hope that she returns as Jin Bu-yeon because we need this OP character to show her awesomeness and get back to her family.

  1. Changing Female lead makes no sense whatsoever. Naksu’s soul was inside Mu-Deok’s body – so Jung So min actually performed as Naksu instead of Mu-Deok .
I predict that the exchange will be a cardinal mistake and the popularity of the drama will collapse.

  3. Not happy with the change, I don’t think I’ll be watching. Jung So Min did all the acting as the 3 characters who cares about the other one that had a few minutes in episode 1

  4. Exactly mudeok body is having naksu soul and buyeon consciousness and name of some1 dead grandchild named mudeok..naksu has her own story who was friends with Yul and in love with Jang uk and was manipulated by Mu. Buyeon needs to reunite with her family and Naksu needs to avenge her family. They are different individuals and have their own story lines.

  5. Alchemy of soul is interesting because the characters mudeok and Jang UK love each other..hope this character is maintained…for yul to be better with nak su… the ending of the story is great and interesting if Jang UK with mudeok n yul with naksu. I am waiting for this drama every week because the characters are mudeok with Jang UK.. ..this is my feeling when I watching kdrama alchemy of soul…

    • I agree … bring back Jung so Min.. I don’t think I’m gonna finish watching the second season … I’ll just wait until Mudeok character is back … why they have to change the female lead … so upsetting … i was so anticipating to watch the 2nd season but after learning that they’ve change the female lead I have loss interest in watching it. Hope there is a 3rd season with jung so min in it .

      • Exactly. They cannot just switch and switch characters like that especially when viewers already got attached. Started Season 2 and I already lost interest. Very disappointing and very sad

  6. Ha ha ha, exactly…if there is no proper ending for mu deok…they just lost the essence and beauty of season 1…this drama surpass all the fantasy drama, but ending it like that with mudeok destroys it’s beauty. I keep on repeating all the episodes because of its funny script but the ending in EP 20 kills all the excitement. Hope they will still do something good about mudeok in season 2.

  7. I didn’t fall in love with Go Yoon-jung in the first season, she was there very briefly. Any actress could have played the part and would have done great. She didn’t carry the story throughout 20 episodes. That being said, season 1 was great! Even the cliff hanger of Mu-deok being saved in the lake. Would I watch season 2? I will wait until 2023 if I am not busy I can watch the re-run.

  8. after that ending…the silly bells out of nowhere and high priestess buyeon allows that to happen to her body. Storyline wigged out not watching “season”2. Not investing my time into it but thanks for 19 good episodes!

  9. Yes I really don’t like the fact that they changed the female what the essence of watching season 2 mudeok is the reason I love this movie

  10. To begin with she owned this drama NAKSU she performed alchemy of soul thats why she had to be in mu deoks body the whole time so am happy that she is coming back to her true nature and not ending the movie with someone else’s body Naksu and mu deok are two different being but they are just residing in the same body the whole time it was Naksu doing but in a different body take note haters

  11. Shouldn’t it be Mudeok busting the crap out of Jin Mu for using her??? Why bring Naksu in since Mudeok is the one who carried the full 20 episodes and whom Jang Uk fell in love with? Naksu was with Yul so bring her back to Yul and bring Bu Yeon out, but why do we have to sacrifice Mudeok for all of that?? It’s called Alchemy of Souls, so bring the three souls out of one. Personally this sucks for Jang Uk.

  12. i feel bad for go yoon jung actually, most of the people don’t want to watch the season 2 because jsm was replaced. People will compare her acting as naksu for sure, she will be obligated to compete with jung so min because people might demand their highest expectations

  13. Uk fell in love with Mudouk not Naksu. Uk knew that Naksu was inside Mudouks body and used Naksu to teach him but fell in love with the maid not the killer. As he used to say, she was always by his side no matter what. This is not right to change this scenes history just foe the fans forget about Mudouk. Naksu may keep being the killer and between her and Uk can do the rest. In the meantime, Uk and Mudouk deserve to be happy together.

  14. The only reason that I watched alchemy of souls because I was captivated by Naksu in episode 1. Go Yoon-Jung was so great to portray as assassin. Then the succeeding episodes made me really disappointed because the assassin was turned into a bubbly maid. The character didn’t makes sense at all. I don’t know if it is because of the writer of the drama or the actress Jung So-min. I’m excited for Go Yoon-jung as Naksu. She doesn’t need to act like Mudeok. Season 1 was like Naksu and Mudeok are two different persons.

  15. How is this going to play out? Naksu returns and even if they bring back Mudeok, UK and even the Crown Prince are in love with her, not Naksu. Yul will be happy though because he is in love with Naksu. I can’t wait to watch season 2. The actress who played Mudeok was so talented and had such good chemistry with all 3 men, UK, Yul and the Crown Prince. We need to see Yu Beon have a happy ending reuniting with her family.

  16. Do not like the lead female switch. We fell in love with the shapeshifter. Naksu was cool in the beginning, but Mu-deok’s performance as the assassin when jinmu commanded her to kill was so fluid. She was amazing with her sword. She’s also gorgeous. The first naksu looked like a male.

  17. The writers had so much content they knew there would be a season 2. However, the audience has go me along for the ride and we want Jung So Min to reprise her role as Mu-deok. Both UK and Mu-deok had chemistry. I do not care to see chemistry work up with the original Make u.

If Jung is not in the first episode this drama will flop and have a disastrous outcome similar to the sequels had with the disastrous plot to kill off Luke. It is an insult to viewers to suggest that less than fifteen minutes of the original actress who played the assassin captivated us after nineteen episodes is an insult.

I loved season 1 and really hope that all 3 personalities receive an worthy outcome. If you persist in this folly writers you run this risk of being overlooked in future viewership. The audience have longer memories than you seem to think. I wanted to commend these writers they can tell a story, it is always the actors that bring a story to life.

If Jung So Min did not want to come back that is one thing. If this was an executive decision and it was always decided for story advancement that Jung would not return. That is the iceberg, which will sink Alchemy of Souls Season 2. You do realize viewers buy dramas. I will buy Season 1 and skip season 2.

  18. So excited to see the real Naksu coming back!
That’s the attractive part of the movie!
Jung so min is pretty and performed the Mudeok role fully, but she looks more “cute” and adorable. When Go Joon Jung looks more like a real assassin and her face, her eyes look so deep.. showing a vibe that she has been through a life full of sadness and loneliness.
I love the fact that they bring the real Naksu back!!!!!!

  19. sorry but the bad thing is changing the main female actress bc of that i don’t feel the need to watch the S2 everything become meaningless

  20. I like this kind of idea Jang Uk with Mudeok and Yul with Naksu. I am just hoping they will include Mudeok with Jang Uk with different side of story in season 2 or in season 3.
Usually viewers are not really open about changing the main character in the next season that makes the viewer lose their interest to watch.

  21. Wrong. My-Deok was always Naksu. Nakusu’s spirit was merely wearing and confined by By-Yeon’s innate strictures. She was constantly a hobbled persona.

How a burned body is restored is going to be movie magic to be done believably.

Yoon was a dominant, commanding force from moment one. She is more powerful than all the other mages put together except for Bu-Yeon who is too powerful for her own good. She can’t control the power in her. So she’s neutralized sort of like a nuclear bomb. You can threaten with it but you can’t really use it.

  22. I agree with you oo. We fell in love with my-deok, but whichever way. I enjoyed season one and I hope season two will be better.
Maybe season two is just trying to let us know that Uk will keep loving Naksu whichever body she is in. That the love is real ????

  23. They should have just went with the original actor of Naksu playing Deok instead and Jung So Min playing Naksu in the first episode. This way they wouldn’t have to swap up So min for the season 2 as she will just be a cameo. Why make us intrigue about the actress and then take her (So Min) away from us in Season 2? If So Min could not commit to the show, they should have swap the 2 actresses role to meet their schedule. Feel very messed up.

  24. I thought Naksu’s body was burnt? How come she’s going to return again? They should have just let Uk use d ice stone to stop Mudeok from running wild.

  25. It’s ok with the change of female main lead as long as the flow of the story is nicely arranged and shows continuity from the last episode of season 1.
Can’t wait to watch season 2.
The return of the real naksu from ep.1 of season 1 & mudeok to her family is such a good move for season 2. All are to be returned to their original positions & belongings.
In this way, Uk can purely love the person in her real body.

  26. I accepted she replaced. I don’t think about Mudeok, because Mudeok was not the true identify of Naksu’s face in season 1. I really like Naksu is real. I’m still loving season 2 is best, because I very support all the actresses and the actors as their great work.

  27. I don’t really like the fact that the story line was changed just because they want to do season 2
The real person Jang UK loves is mudeok not naksu.. remember he said that if naksu should point the sword at him and killed him, he will die as the person that released the assassin but she will withdrew it, he will make her another promise because she will now be mudeok which only has the soul of naksu not no longer naksu and remember that naksu told the her friend at chiwensoru that she has change her fate so why do they need to change the main lead after giving us fact about who jang UK really loves… His master his naksu while his lover is mudeok but the two them are together as one so I hope the bring back mudeok for Jang UK whichever way they want to do it and let Seo Yul end up with is first love which is naksu

  28. I don’t really like the fact that the story line was changed just because they want to do season 2
