Alchemy of Souls (환혼) is a 2022 Korean fantasy drama which is set in the imaginary world of Daeho. The story revolves around young magicians who are to carry the burden of the past. Starring Lee Jae-wook, Jung So-min and Hwang Min-hyun, the show premiered on tvN on Jun 18, 2022. The show will have 20 episodes and it takes over tvN’s Saturday-Sunday 9 PM KST timeslot previously occupied by Our Blues. Alchemy of Souls episode 10 has a runtime of 73 minutes.

Alchemy of Souls episode 10 starts with Kim Do-ju wondering about the identity of the woman that Jang Uk loves in front of Mu-deok who know that it is her but is determined to not look further into it. Elsewhere, Jang Uk completes the tasks given to him and asks to leave but is stopped by Park Jin who gives him a book that is said to be impossible to read. This turns out to be a plan of Park Jin’s to stop Jang Uk from leaving Songrim while trying to bring back Jang Kang with the news of Jang Uk’s admission to Songrim.
Jang Uk on the other hand realises that Park Jin has tricked him and decides to sneak out of there but is seen by Heo Yoon-ok and asks her to ignore what he is doing. At the Jang family house, Mu-deok is visited by Seo Yul who updates her about Jang Uk and then asks her to buy him an umbrella to compensate for the umbrella that she lost. He ends up talking about his memory with Naksu but soon changes the topic. Back at the house, Jang Uk finds out that Mu-deok has gone out.
Elsewhere, Jin Cho-yeon meets Park Dong-gu for their fake break-up but decides to postpone it to some other day. In the market, the girl from the boat So Yi is trying to escape from the two women from whom she stole and sees Mu-deok there. However, she runs away as those women are still after her, but this only has her surrounded by men who have been chasing her because she stole their money. Those men try to drag her away as she screams for help, and right then Seo Yul enters the scene and saves her. She then leaves the scene but is made unconscious by someone and dragged away.
Mu-deok finds out that Jang Uk has come home and rushes to meet him but Kim Do-ju tell her that she just missed him. She does not give up and rushes behind him and finally finds him on a boat in the canal. They are finally able to meet each other and Mu-deok tells him to wait for her as she has found a way to enter Songrim. Back at Songrim, the crown prince finds Jang Uk returning and thinks about tattling on him but does not go through with it after Jang Uk shares his honey biscuits with him.

At Cheonbugwan, Seo Ha-sun questions Jin Mu about the crown prince’s attitude towards Songrim and if it worrying, but he assures her that they can show him Jang Uk’s constellation plate which will leave him with no choice but to kill Jang Uk. He later shows her a big jar with So Yi inside, that can help them subdue Jin Ho-kyung. Back at Songrim, Jang Uk returns right before Sang Ho comes to check on him and Heo Yoon-ok, which saves him from being caught.
Mu-deok tells Kim Do-ju about her plans to enter Songrim but the latter assures her that she doesn’t need to take the test for that. Kim Do-ju then goes to the recruitment head maidservant Park and tries to bribe her into giving Mu-deok a spot, but she refuses and gives away the bribe to Park Jin. He then interrogates Kim Do-ju about this incident and tells her that people will misunderstand him because of which he can no longer be close to her. She gets angry and tells him that she will apologise to maidservant Park and let everyone in Songrim know that she is not close to him. Park Jin tries to appease her but she leaves without listening to him.
Elsewhere, Jang Uk tries to read the book given to him when master Lee arrives and tells him about the book. He gives him the clue that the book contains poems written by his master and is actually a love letter for a woman who could not see. He also tells him that it would take him a year to read the words in the book, but the other way is to figure out the love letter. Later as he is leaving for Danhyanggok, Heo Yeom tries to stop him but to no avail. However, the two then spot the angry Kim Do-ju who sees them too and comes to greet them while giving the scarf in her hands to master Lee as a gift. She even ties it around his neck which shocks Heo Yeom about the happenings in front of him.

The contest to become a servant in Songrim has begun and Mu-deok is ready to get a spot while everyone finds out about her participation. The first test requires them to read and calculate with all answers being correct. Seo Yul, Park Dang-gu and the crown prince have all found the test paper and start solving it together. They quickly solve all the questions and are now thinking of ways to get it to Mu-deok, when they decide that there is no one better than the crown prince for this job.
The crown prince enters the place where the exams are held and uses his position to avoid suspicion while handing the answers to the Mu-deok, which helps her pass the first test. Next are the practical test, which tests their skills as servants which she passes easily. The last test is a physical test which is a race.
Elsewhere, Jang Uk is visited by Park Jin who tells him to let him know if he needs anything. Jang Uk says he is fine and instead asks him if master Seo Gyeong knew any blind woman. Park Jin tells him that he did and that was the first leader of the Jin family. Jang Uk then asks the name of the woman and is told that her name was Jin Seol-ran. He then finds out that the meaning of the name is “An orchid that blooms in the white snow”, which should be the way to open the letter. With this, he is finally able to read the letters in the book.

Alchemy Of Souls Episode 10 Ending
Alchemy of Souls episode 0 ends with Mu-deok running the race with all her might while Jang Uk writes the words from the book on paper. As the race is slowly coming to an end, Jang Uk finishes copying down the words and rushes out to find her. Mu-deok is about to lose the race but she is not ready to give up and pushes herself to cross the finishing line, earning her the final spot. Park jin on the other hand is surprised that Jang Uk has accomplished his task and asks about his whereabouts. Sang Ho tells him that he is at Sejukwon as Mu-deok had passed out at the finishing line and is receiving treatment there.
This makes Park Jin suspicious of Mu-deok who is always beside Jang Uk. At Sejukwon, Jang Uk tells about the book he was given to read and that it was actually master Seo Gyeong’s love letter. He also tells her that the letter must not have been sent to the woman as it was in Songrim and not Jinyowon to which Mu-deok calls master Seo Gyeong a coward and the letter pitiful and sad. He agrees with her while taking out the servant recruitment notice that Mu-deok had given to him earlier to let him know of her plan. She denies it being a letter but he tells her that it is a letter as long as it conveys one’s feelings.

She asks him what he read in her letter and he interprets- “I will go this far to see you. I can do anything if it means being able to see you.” An then tells her that his reply is that he missed her too. But all this while she thinks about how these words were never meant to be sent or be read by him as that was her foolish love letter.
Alchemy Of Souls Episode 10 Review
Alchemy of Souls episode 10 has definitely pleased us all. Even though Mu-deok tries to run away from her feelings for Jang Uk, she can no longer deny that she has fallen for him and that her feelings are known by him. I wish that the two get together soon instead of fighting their feelings. I hope that the reason is revealed in future episodes because I really want this ship to sail soon! But this is not the only ship that I want to sail, the Jin Cho-yeon and Park Dan-gu ship is also on the way, while Park Jin continues to wreck his ship with Kim Do-ju.
Other than this, I’m really loving the crown prince’s character which has a charm that we cannot ignore. He is a good crown prince and is different from his parents in the palace. While the queen and Jin Mu are sure that they can get him to kill Jang Uk, I think that they are underestimating him and he will definitely prove them wrong. I cannot help but hope that his friendship with the trio in Songrim gets better and that they support him in the future. Also, let us talk about Soo Yi who has got herself caught up in Jin Mu’s plans and will become a wall that will stop Jin Ho-kyung from meeting her real daughter.
I also have to discuss this 200-year-old history of Daeho which is slowly opening up in these episodes. I want to both cry for and curse master Seo Gyeong who saved Daeho back then but doesn’t seem to have lived a happy life. But I really loved this poem that he has written for her who cannot see. And is it me or does the real Mu-deok seems to have a deeper connection with the first leader of Jinyowon- Jin Seol-ran? They definitely seem to share more than just a surname and I am looking forward to what will be unveiled in the upcoming episodes.
Altogether, this weekend was for the real Mu-deok and I am looking forward to the focus character of next weekend’s episodes. This show hasn’t failed to keep me on my toes till now and I am really hoping that it continues to do the same. What do you think of today’s episode?
