Alba (2021) Ending Explained: Does Alba Get Justice? Who Are the Culprits?

The 2021 Spanish drama Alba is one tragic and chilling tale of a woman’s fight to get justice for herself. An adaptation of the Turkish book titled Fatmagül’ün Suçu Ne?, which translates to ‘What is Fatmagül’s Crime?’, the series is very close to the Netflix original Unbelievable. The series stars Elena River and Eric Masip in major roles alongside others.

The story revolves around Alba, who heads to her hometown with her boyfriend Bruno, to finally announce that they have started dating. On her first night back, she decides to go partying at Kevin’s Pub and waits for her boyfriend to show up. While waiting, her drink is spiked and a few men misbehave with her. Upset, Alba heads for her home but, on her way back she is followed by the men from the pub, thereafter, attacked and raped and recorded and left lying on the beach.

On gaining sense the next morning, Alba realizes the horrors of the night before and although she cannot remember her attackers, she approaches the police for help. These events kick-start the entire plot of Alba seeking justice and punishment for her offenders as the justice system, friends and family constantly disappoint her and pose an obstacle in her way.

Alba Ending Explained: What Happens at the End?

The thirteen episodes long series shows Alba’s trials and tribulations in obtaining justice. While seeking justice Alba gets to know that her offenders are none other than her boyfriend, Bruno’s friends- Jacobo, Ruben, and Hugo. During the course of the story, even Bruno is wrongly framed for raping his girlfriend.

Towards the end of the show, Alba is successful in getting Jacobo, Ruben and Hugo a sentence for their crimes and gets to know that Bruno never took part in the horrific crime. However, coming from a powerful background, Ruben’s mother, Mercedes tries everything in her power to save her child. At the very crucial point during the trial, Mercedes reveals having an affair with the judge and gets her son and his friends off with the context of ‘mistrial’.

She goes on to bribe Alba and, even threatens to hurt her family when the latter rejects the offer. As Mercedes makes ends meet to get Ruben off the hook, Hugo, one of the offenders commits suicide, unable to live with the guilt. However, before taking his life, Hugo leaves behind a letter confessing his crime and also the fact that Jacobo is a repeated sexual offender and, Ruben played a part in the events of that terrifying night.

Luck plays its part in Alba’s story as she, with the help of Bego, discovers that Jacobo keeps souvenirs from his victims and also discovers chats of the aggressors talking about their sexual exploits. Meanwhile, Ruben who is still obsessed with Alba seeks up on her one night and ends up kidnapping her.

Ruben brings her to an old factory and holds her at gunpoint. He calls Jacabo, which is instrumental in giving Bruno and Cesar the location of the spot where Alba is abducted to. Holding her at gunpoint, Ruben and Jacabo threaten to kill Alba. She tried everything in her power to shake up the duo, which leads to Jacobo’s failed attempt at pulling the trigger. Right in the nick of time, Bruno and Cesar enter the scene and save Alba.

Cesar shoots at a fleeing Ruben and gets him injured. Thereafter, Ruben and Jacobo are both arrested by the police. Later on, the police also find the souvenir box filled with the victim’s underwear at Jacobo’s place proving him to be a patterned rape offender. Thus, in the end, Alba gets her justice and moves on with her life with Bruno, hoping for a newer, better start.
