The Mexican comedy series Against The Ropes, aka Contra Las Cuerdas, is directed by Carolina Rivera. The series follows the story of Angela finding a way to mend the broken relationship with her daughter. The screenwriters are Carmen Castro, Olfa Masmoudi, Cynthia Fernández Trejo and Andre Palavicini Blanco.
Against The Ropes Synopsis
The official Netflix description of the series reads,
Released from prison, Ángela tries to regain the respect of her daughter, who loves lucha libre wrestling, by entering the ring as a mysterious persona.
The main protagonist Angela was inside the prison for a crime that she committed in her past (which we do not know yet). When she is released, her main goal is to earn back her daughter’s love and respect somehow. It is pretty general for kids to dislike their parents when they make a mistake and go to jail. Again, we really don’t know yet why Angela was locked up. To make her daughter accept her, Angela decides to join wrestling just because her daughter loves that sport.

Against The Ropes Cast and Crew Members
The full cast includes Michelle Rodríguez, Alejandra Ley, Scarlet Gruber, Caraly Sánchez, Carmen Ramos, Alisson Santiago, Giovanna Zacarías, Cuauhtli Jiménez, María Balam and the other supporting actors will be known after the series premieres. Joaquín de la Riva does the art direction, the costumes are planned by Mariana Chavira, and Catalina Hernandez is in-charge of the make-up department.
José de la Parra and Carlos Enrique Sanchez managed the series’ sound department, and Gastón Mauricio Muñoz, Andres R. Santiso and Edson Jovanni Flores Esquivel executed the visual effects.
Against The Ropes Trailer and Release Date
In the first scene of the trailer, Angela is released from prison and gets warmly welcomed by her mother. As soon as she reaches home, she first calls out for her daughter, who is actually at a wrestling match. When Angela witnesses how her daughter is in awe of a wrestling champion, she decides to try it out.
Meanwhile, in the trailer, we also can see how Angela’s daughter rolls her eyes at her home and tries her best to stay away. Her faded memory of her mother getting arrested somehow has tricked her mind into believing that Angela is a bad person. Nevertheless, we will know the truth behind Angela’s arrest only when the series premieres.
Angela starts her new life by becoming a masked wrestler, competing in matches, gaining new friends and love interests. While the trailer showed certain important aspects of the series, we’re still left with questions to embark on. Here is the official trailer of Against The Ropes to watch.
