abar rajneeti review

When I watched the first season of Rajneeti, I was taken by surprise by how grounded and realistic the storyline was. We are here in the second season now and we have lost the plot in the sauce… as they say. You know things are about to get out of hand when the twins enter the chat. Anyway, this season, the creators try to keep things confusing and as twisted as last season, but man does it go right off the rails from the first episode.

The storyline is so unbelievable that Abar Rajneeti feels silly sometimes. The unrealistic twists feel more like forced situations created solely to make us gasp by keeping our brains out of our heads but even then it is difficult to sit through sometimes. The storyline is so basic this season that it’s nothing short of hilarious and dumb. It’s this basic and cliched vibe that keeps it from making an impact in our minds. As West Bengal goes through its own messy voting season, the series should’ve come as a tight watch. Let’s face it, the reality is messed up as it is and we don’t need to go too deep into fantasy to make an impact. However, the series forgets to take inspiration from reality and serves the most cliched plot points on a platter.

Ditipriya Roy’s Rashi is especially dumb in this season, being pushed around by everyone constantly and believing anything and everything that she hears. On the other hand, the other characters are all bad in some capacity, so much so that they seem silly and over-the-top. Grey characters are the best when it comes to thrillers such as this one but all of the characters are shown in such a negative light that it takes away from the thrill. I, however, like Koneenica Banerjee and I just wish that part would’ve been explored a bit more than it was.

In the end, Abar Rajneeti definitely answers some questions that it brought up in the last season while posing a few more. Characters are killed, characters come to the limelight and some characters are left in the dust to wonder what is happening, including us. The series loses itself trying to make things complicated and shocking but ends up being silly in the end, with plotholes leaving us hassled and tired by the end of the short runtime.

Abar Rajneeti Review: Final Thoughts

abar rajneeti review

Going off the rails from the first episode, Rajneeti Season 2 shows Rashi as this annoyingly naive woman who has no idea what’s happening for the most part. Constantly crying and wailing, there are moments that leave you annoyed beyond measure sometimes. There are a few good twists, but it’s followed by such silliness that it’s hard to take it seriously.
