In this tragic film, we follow a family torn apart by a violent death, the gruesome nature of which will leave viewers disturbed. The film gets to the point of the story quickly and never lets us off the hook from the get-go. There’s never a time when we are not made acutely aware of the tragedy that befell this person and the violence that he faced one fateful night.

The film does a great job of bringing the different facets of this story to the forefront and makes everything a bit matter-of-fact. We learn about the situation from many different perspectives, including Jason’s children, Sarah and Jack and the woman at the centre of it all, Molly. The story takes many twists and turns and leaves us on a loop for a lot of it. It’s shocking to see the crime scene photos, and you can’t help but question Molly’s version of events, considering the horrifying reality of the crime scene.

On the other hand, the film also showcases a darker side to Jason that no one seemingly knew about except for Molly. Allegations are thrown around that cannot be corroborated because, well, Jason is not alive to defend himself. It will throw viewers for a loop as the film draws in viewers’ attention to understand the various factors at play in this tragedy. Do you believe Jason or Molly? Who is at fault? It’s a film that keeps you guessing till the end.

The film brings forth many interviews and crime scene footage to make its case. I will say that the crime scene photos are absolutely horrifying to witness and will leave most feeling a bit disturbed. It makes quite an impact, which adds to the watchability of the show. And just when you think it’s over, the story brings another shocking twist that will leave you utterly shocked. I audibly gasped towards the end when the film took another shocking turn, and regardless of who is telling the truth, the film does a fantastic job of holding all of its cards to its chest and showing them when it will hit the most.

Final Thoughts

A Deadly American Marriage is an interesting watch and one that will give you whiplash every few minutes. It’s deeply emotional and will leave you on edge throughout as one shocking twist after another comes out to leave you stumped. This one’s a good watch for all true crime enthusiasts.
