If you’ve just moved away from watching the latest Netflix hit Do Revenge featuring Maya Hawke and Camila Mendes, and are in for more teenage vengeance storylines, then this one is for you. Even throughout the movie of the hour, one can list down the various ’90s references or inspirations that played an essential part in building up this movie.
The entertaining flick has been directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and is reminiscent of a multitude of movies in this category. The story essentially follows the fortuitous meeting of Drea and Eleanor who are both carrying instances of social trauma as a part of their memories. Eleanor is also a new student at the same school as Drea so they decide to “do each other’s revenge” and level the playing field.
We’ve decided to help you navigate your way around this genre by listing some classic movies like Do Revenge that you need to add to your watchlist now. Get ready for the not-so-glamorous world of high schools where teenagers are but adolescent warriors on the battlefield where one heartbreak is followed by another.

7 Movies like Do Revenge
Mean Girls
You can’t find a more classic representative of the teen genre than this. Much like Do Revenge, Mean Girls materialized the whole coming together of the teen-revenge saga. Starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfriend, Lacey Chabert, and more, the movie had it all – a new entry to high school, compartmentalization of cliques, the reigning Queen Bee, a vengeance track playing between supposed BFFs, heartbreaks, first loves, switching sides, a covert annihilation of the popular group’s status and the ultimate friends’ reunion. Do Revenge slightly ups the adult content during its runtime but looking at it otherwise, it’s an extended throwback fest to the OG herself.

Heathers
Although a member of the school’s It group, Winona Ryder’s Veronica doesn’t take their ill-treatment of others lightly and wishes to go back to her older ways and friends. A new rebellious teen J.D. captures her attention and so begins her rampage on the same named Heathers with her new boyfriend. The dropping numbers of all the popular students who pose as bullies are made to look like suicides to cover their tracks. Heathers is the other major influencing number for Do Revenge considering both their dark alliances as opposed to the common chirpy outlook of teen movies.
A Simple Favor
This is the only addition to this list that doesn’t involve teens. Yet just like Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke’s radiating partnership in the latest Netflix release, A Simple Favor bears witness to a similar team-up with Anna Kendricks and Blake Lively. Kendricks plays Stephanie, a single mother-vlogger who must resolve the case of Emily’s (Lively) disappearance before it’s too late. Meanwhile, there’s a lot hiding in the shadows that threatens Stephanie’s life. It’s very much up for debate whether the plot twist therein was inevitable or not but it surely reminded us of what happens in Do Revenge as well.
John Tucker Must Die
The titular character is a teenage womanizing jock who had been “in love” with three girls from different groups simultaneously. The trio hatches the conning act by pairing him up with the newcomer at school in order to break his heart just as he did theirs. To achieve this, Britany Snow’s character has to go through a makeover and become the striking femme fatale who will take him down but as one can expect the path of vengeance is rarely a walk in the garden, especially when you’re a teenager.
Thoroughbreds
Two wealthy students played by Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy put their friendship to the ultimate test in this psychological thriller fest as the genre-blending concoction treads towards a bloody end. While the movie involves the coming together of two vengeful teenagers, its setting as well as the overall trajectory is quite different than that of Do Revenge. It’s a bit messier and more mature than the other movie in question but they still share some commonalities.
Clueless
Cue the makeover sessions. The Netflix movie is definitely alluringly attractive but Cher Horowitz was the ’90s fashion queen, and you just can’t outdo her. The 1995 movie follows the life of the teen girl swimming in opulence as she comes to terms with her adolescence. In the midst of it all, she decides to mentor a new student and show her the ropes in popularity. Maya Hawke’s makeover in Do Revenge is but a swift sneak peek into Horowitz’s ever glittering wardrobe.
Cruel Intentions
There was no way that we were going to miss out on Sarah Michelle Gellar’s performance in Cruel Intentions, which again has to do with the lives of upper-class high school students, which of course, can’t be watched with your family. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the director of the latest Netflix release (which also stars the same actress playing the headmaster) has even mentioned that the actress’ former role in the cult classic film played a huge role in shaping her writing for Gellar’s new character.
Here’s your long dose of teenage shenanigans. We hope you have a blast while binge-watching these titles. Let us know your favorite pick in the comments section below.
