66th Japan Record Awards: NewJeans, TXT, LE SSERAFIM, and ILLIT Take Over Spotlight with Major Wins

The 66th Japan Record Awards (66th 日本レコード大賞) announced its winners on November 21 before the live ceremony scheduled for December 30. This is one of Japan’s most respected music events, celebrating the best achievements in Japanese music in terms of artistry, popularity, and innovation. This year, Kpop artists continued to make their mark with NewJeans, TXT, LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT garnering top honors. Their wins not only prove that K-pop continues to bring much-needed impact in Japan but also show how it grows beyond any cultural restrictions. It expands into diverse audience areas and transitions easily onto the global scene.

66th Japan Record Awards Kpop Winners

Excellent Work Award

NewJeans

New Jeans continued to make its mark by winning the Excellent Work Award for their Japanese debut single, Supernatural. It is a second consecutive win after last year when “Ditto” received its recognition. The Excellent Work Award recognizes 10 standout songs released during the past year, with an emphasis on public popularity, artistry, and originality. Notably, these 10 songs, such as NewJeans’ Supernatural, will also compete in the Grand Prize, which will be awarded at the live-telecasted ceremony on December 30.

New Artist Award

ILLIT

The promising Kpop girl group ILLIT won the New Artist Award for their hit single “Magnetic.” The honor is also especially remarkable because it is the first time a K-pop girl group snatched the title after 13 years, since the last time was when 2NE1 did in 2011. This will be a testament to the exploding popularity of the group and signals bright times ahead for them.

Special Award

TXT and LE SSERAFIM

TXT, received a Special Award for their great contribution to the music scene; while LE SSERAFIM, for their exceptional performance and influence at the global level, received the Special International Music Award. These groups are perfect examples of how K-pop is reaching audiences across the globe.

K-pop’s success at the Japan Record Awards 2024 indicates the brightening prospects of K-pop influence in the Japanese music market. The subgenre’s ability to blend cultural authenticity with universal appeal has won audiences over. K-pop has become an inevitable part of these sporadic ceremonies, which have been celebrating some of the best musical voices since 1959.

As fans await the December 30 announcement of the Grand Prize, K-pop’s representation among winners and nominees solidifies its position as a dominant force in shaping modern music trends.

Congratulations to all the 66th Japan Record Awards Winners!
