They aren’t buzz-heavy hits and bring viewers into deeper, more nuanced worlds.
5 Underrated Netflix Series of 2025
Adolescence

This remarkable British psychological crime drama unfolds entirely in four single-take episodes and is an experience to take in at every moment. Centred on a schoolboy arrested for the murder of a classmate, the series’ narrative unfolding and captivating performances deservedly brought in universal acclaim. The way the series holds on to tension and unravels every scene is not just fear-inducing, it’s thoroughly claustrophobic and will leave anyone on edge and devastated. Episode 3 is by far the most difficult episode to get through, and the tension between Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty will have your heart in a chokehold.
It’s a bit far-fetched to call this series underrated, considering it got an Emmy nomination, but if you haven’t watched Adolescence, this is your call to action to rectify that oversight!
The Åre Murders

Set in the remote Swedish mountains, this Nordic noir series follows a detective who investigates a missing girl case. The series hasn’t garnered much mainstream buzz, but its atmospheric tension is palpable in every scene. A faithful adaptation of Viveca Sten’s popular novels, Carla Sehn is fantastic in the series, and despite a short runtime, the series manages to catch you in a chokehold. The wintry isolation and a confusing and heartbreaking case set it apart from the typical crime fare and will be a memorable watch through and through.
The Glass Dome

Created by author Camilla Läckberg, The Glass Dome is a Swedish crime mystery series that follows Lajla as she tries to get to the bottom of a young child’s abduction. With her own traumatic childhood coming back to haunt her, the series is as entertaining as it is, thanks to a very relatable and enjoyable protagonist who is smart as a whip.
Plus, the desolate small village makes for a terrifying place for such a terrible crime to take place, and as more and more things come to light, the last twist is what will leave you utterly devastated. Lajla confronting her past is what turns the series into a human storytelling rather than a typical whodunit thriller, and will definitely make it stand out all the more.
When Life Gives You Tangerines

If you love human stories that will leave you devastated, then this nostalgic slice-of-life K-drama is where you should rush to. Following an aspiring poet in the 1950s Jeju, the series is a charming watch that will grip you with its scenic visuals, heartwarming story and richly layered characters and performances. Although it has gained some notoriety since its release, When Life Gives You Tangerines hasn’t found the amount of love that it deserves. Featuring fantastic performances from both IU and Park Bo-gum, the series is truly a transformative experience that you usually don’t get to go through in most Netflix shows these days.
Dear Hongrang

A historical mystery series set in the Joseon-era Korea, Dear Hongrang is truly underrated and has somehow gone under people’s radars. It revolves around a disappeared heir who suddenly comes back to the palace as an adult and the devastating effects it has on everyone in the palace. The series is a compelling blend of mystery, myth and melodrama and will leave you on edge throughout. Featuring fantastic performances from Lee Jae-wook, Jo Bo-ah and Jung Ga-ram, especially the chemistry between Jae-wook and Bo-ah, the drama is a must-watch for anyone who loves mystery shows and melodramas and will stay with you long after the series ends.
