Physical 100

The real-life Squid Game and, the show most compared to Siren Survive the Island, this is also a Korean reality series competition. A survival game show created by MBC’s producer Jang Ho-gi, the show revolves around finding the ideal human physique based on many tests of performance. As the name suggests, the format of the game show includes around a hundred contestants taking part making it difficult to get to honour and cash rewards at the end. You can watch this on Netflix.

The Soldiers

The name hints towards the format of the show and, if you are guessing military then you are bang-on right. This South Korean reality show is a military-themed one that aims to find the best special forces operating in the world by giving the select candidates a series of missions to fulfil that will take them forward in the show. There are 20 male candidates that get on board this show who are from the various special forces units in the Korean Armed Forces.

The show is a three-season project and, it is during the first episode only where they make it clear. You can watch this survival show on SBS.

Steel Troops

Steel Troops aka 강철부대 is a South Korean reality show very similar to the aforementioned The Soldiers. Why we say it is similar is because this one too is a military survival program with male South Korean reservists from the Korean Armed Special Forces, who fight to become the best special forces unit in Korea. Unlike the above one, this one has only two seasons and, although they are very close to each other in almost everything, both give you a different hit and set of groups to engage with. The series is available on Channel A and skyTV.

Outlast

Not a Korean reality show but, it is something that ought to be on this list if you are looking for something more horrifying and gritty than Siren Survive the Island. This American survival reality competition is the lite version of Hunger Games in some way. It is produced by Aggregate Films and Nomad Entertainment with Mike Odair serving as the showrunner. In the series, we have four teams left in the Alaskan wilderness with meagre supplies to fend for themselves and survive. The lone wolf survivalists are forced to show teamwork and coordination to win one million dollars at the end of it all. It is now streaming on Netflix.

Survivor

Another American reality show that needs to be on this list ‘surviving on an isolated island’ format being similar to that of Siren Survive the Island, this belongs to the international Survivor reality competition television franchise that comes from the 1997 Swedish TV show called Expedition Robinson by Charlie Parsons.

Hosted by Jeff Probst, the series is designed to find the ‘sole survivor’ who would be the winner of the game show after placing a group of strangers in an isolated location, where they are left to fend for themselves as well as compete in the designed challenges for rewards and immunity from elimination. It is available now on CBS.
