13: The Musical Features An Incredible Cast and Music

Children will love this movie, and with the acting, singing, and dancing actors do in this series when they perform their songs or scenes on stage, it’s almost as if we are watching a musical. Really? A musical? As a Netflix Original movie? It may surprise you, but this isn’t that big of a surprise when you realise how well the original Broadway show was received.

13: The Musical

Unfamiliar with the musical? Don’t worry. Here’s why it belongs in your Netflix queue. Movie musicals have come a long way in the past few years. Many musicals that were previously famous Broadway plays are now Netflix movies. 13: The Musical is no exception to this. It is the latest inspiring family movie available on Netflix.

13: The Musical is about 13-year-old Evan Goldburg, who is an outcast because he does not know about the teen culture. His new school is foreign to him, including the rules, popular girls and even the other students. He meets a girl who helps him to fit in.

Musicals like 13: The Musical is An Extraordinary Watch

In the universe of high school musicals, this one is the black hole in its centre. Sharp satire and indie-film overtones converge in Jason Robert Brown’s wryly observed 13, a vivid reminder that life is at once fairy tale and horror story, a mixture of rapture and dread.

13: The Musical

The movie has moments of smug superiority, with a “look at how stupid our parents were” attitude straight out of Stranger Than Fiction. But it also makes an emotionally honest plea for middle-schoolers to be themselves – regardless of what bullies or strangers might think.

13: The Musical is a breath of fresh air because it has something to offer everyone. The characters are well developed, and the scenes are incredibly shot and choreographed. This musical was made for teenagers and young adults in the 21st century, with a romantic comedy vibe. However, the songs are very catchy and would appeal to any audience.

The Storyline of 13 The Musical Takes On A Vivid Direction

This is not one of those cheesy musicals where the characters can’t sing or dance; these actors are talented and good-looking. If there aren’t any upcoming showings in your area, I suggest heading to Netflix!

That might not be an awe-inspiring list of musical theatre revues (Little Shop of Horrors, 13: The Musical, and Seminar), but it proves there is hope for the genre, in this case with a thoughtful, layered movie whose songs are just as nuanced as its characters and whose numbers are just as inventive as its plot.

13: The Musical

There isn’t much to say about this musical that hasn’t already been said. It is unlike other musicals of the time. Its uniqueness doesn’t come from the music, staging or choreography. Most of its essence comes from the subject matter and comedy behind it.

This movie is an entertaining follow-up to musicals like Pippin; even though it isn’t groundbreaking or memorable like Spring Awakening, it still proves to be a bright, tuneful and inventive outing with its teen-angst appeal. If you want something to watch for family movie night, this is for you.
