10 Worst Remakes of 2022 That Disappointed Us with their Treatment: Cirkus, Cuttputlli, Hellraiser and More

Worst Remakes of 2022 is a list of movies that failed to reignite the emotions of their source materials and became nothing more than a sour memory of the original. The number of remakes that were released this year is simply astounding, given that most of them amounted to a futile film-watching experience. Therefore, to save yourself from the experience, here are the 10 worst remakes of the year.

Check out 10 Worst Remakes of 2022

1. Cuttputlli

When an engaging film like Ratsasn (which was well-received in its original language), was remade as a Hindi Version, things were meant to go down a little bit. The original Tamil Language flick was a near masterpiece, and already created a buzz of expectations on Cuttputlli starring Akshay Kumar. However, the latter clearly fell short of the hype.

One reason for the poor reception of the Hindi-language version of Ratsasan could be due to a lack of faithfulness to the source material. The filmmakers strayed too far from the original story or made significant changes that did not work in the new setting, which resulted in a disjointed and confusing film.

The direction and screenplay of the Hindi version were not up to the same standards as the Tamil original. Furthermore, the movie suffered from poor pacing, a lack of tension, and a weak plot, which were the major reason behind its poor reception. Notably, the film is streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar.

2. Hellraiser

It is always disappointing when a remake/reboot falls short of the original. In the case of a poorly received Hellraiser, there was a variety of issues, including an average take on the original, subpar performances, and weaknesses in the direction and screenplay.

The film lacked the overall captivating effect of the franchise, and amount to another weak instalment with plenty of flaws. The film is streaming on Hulu.

3. Thank God

Another average remake of the year included Indra Kumar’s fantasy comedy-drama Thank God. The film revolved around a real estate broker who finds himself inside a game of life and death, after a terrible accident. Moreover, it starred Sidharth Malhotra as Ayaan Kapoor in the lead role along with Ajay Devgn.

The film was an official remake of the Danish language film Sorte Kugler (What Goes Around) which was released in the year 2009. Furthermore, the movie is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

4. Nikamma

Nikamma was a weak remake of the 2017 Telegu film Middle Class Abbayi starring Nani and Sai Pallavi in the lead role. The plot of the movie revolves around an unemployed Aditya, who safeguards her sister-in-law from the threats of a goon. All in all, the flick lacked the charismatic element of the original and succumbed to conventional storytelling. It was directed by Sabbir Khan and is streaming on Netflix.

5. Private Property

A remake that dates back to the sixties, Private Property is a story of a woman, who gets seduced by a neighbouring gardener by providing her with the care and attention that she needs. However, the innocent admirer turns out to be an eccentric personality with a selfish agenda. The flick starred Ashley Benson, Shiloh Fernandez, Logan Miller, Frank Whaley, and Jay Pharoah in pivotal roles, and was a weak extension of the film with the same name, released in 1960.

The film is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

6. Forensic

Based on the Malayalam language film of the same name, Forensic circles around a police officer and forensic specialists, who set out on an investigation of a cold-blooded serial killer. The film starred Vikrant Massey, Radhika Apte, Rohit Roy and Prachi Desai in lead roles, and was directed by Vishal Furia.

Although the film made attempts to outwork the original, it ultimately receded to an average whodunnit tale, with several loose ends. Thereby, failing to match the standards of the original. The movie is streaming on Zee5.

7. Blurr

Even though Tapsee Pannu starred in a fine remake of the Spanish film Mirage (Dobaaraa), her recent thriller venture Blurr, denied the odds against her favour of best adaptations. The flick was a lukewarm repetition of another Spanish flick Julia’s Eyes and failed to match the thrilling element of the original. Moreover, the movie is streaming now on Zee5.

8. Snow Day

Chevy Chase’s classic fun comedy Snow Day found an average remake this year in the form of a Nickelodeon venture. While the original film made us root for the innocence of the character, the latter made it almost impossible to relate to the cringe fully layered set of events. Moreover, the remake starred Ky Baldwin, Michaela Russell, Jerry Trainor, Laura Bell Bundy, and Rob Huebel and is streaming on Paramount Plus.

9. Bachchhan Paandey

Bachchhan Paandey was hyped as a return of Akshay Kumar to his raw and gritty avatar but ultimately succumbed to nothing of that sort. The film was also the remake of the Tamil language film Jigarthanda and had a lesser element of masala than the original. Moreover, the film flick garnered negative reviews and was also a box-office disappointment. Currently, it’s streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

10. Cirkus

Last but not the least, the recently released Rohit Shetty film Cirkus joined the leagues of not only the worst remake/adaptations but also the worst films of the year. For instance, the film is based on William Shakespeare’s play The Comedy of Errors, which in turn was the source material for the cult classic Angoor. All in all, Cirkus let down all the elements of its source material and translated it into a mundane and lifeless film. Moreover, it’s currently running in theatres.
