You People Plot/Synopsis

Ezra is trying to find someone to date for a while now and is looking to settle down but doesn’t find anyone like that yet. Until. He comes across Amira by sheer luck, and they hit it off. They have chemistry and are definitely getting serious enough to think in the long term. There are obstacles to achieving that, however.

He comes up against Amira’s father, Akbar, who is not ready to let Ezra marry Amira. There is some serious tension between the families now. The couple has a conversation about what to do, and Amira is similarly scared that Ezra’s parents won’t really like her. Instead of a scathing rejection, Amira has to deal with something much worse. Performative allyship. Ezra’s mother, Shelley, has been trying to be relatable to Amira by making the most obscure comments relevant to the black community.

Meanwhile, Arnold, Ezra’s dad, has been lurking in the background, chiming in at the worst possible time. This is a situation Amira and Ezra truly cannot navigate. But the in-laws meeting has to happen, and the problems that are raised create humour in its own right. With a Jewish and a Muslim family coming together, the culture clash has definitely created some ripe ground for discussion and dialogue that will make the film a stellar slice-of-life film.
