Would You Marry Me Episode 9 Recap

The episode opens with Wu-ju finally uncovering the truth about his divorce decree, but he refuses to accept it. Convinced that Me-ri still has feelings for him, he begins to piece together the shocking truth: the winners of the Beaute Palace contest are none other than Me-ri and Woo-joo, who had pretended to be Wu-ju. Enraged by their deception, Wu-ju threatens Me-ri, claiming he will expose the truth to destroy Woo-joo’s reputation and prevent him from becoming the heir of Myungsoondang. Fearful for Woo-joo’s future, Me-ri reluctantly agrees to break up with him, despite her love.

Elsewhere, Woo-joo’s grandmother, Ms Go, discusses some concerning documents left behind by a late employee. The files point to J Consultancy, a firm suspected of embezzling funds from their company. As Woo-joo examines the documents, he begins to suspect his uncle might be involved in something corrupt.

Meanwhile, in the United States, Han-gu’s American wife Min-jung grows increasingly frustrated with him for not divorcing his other wife in Korea. She wants their son, Henry, to spend time with his father openly. Han-gu, who married Mi-yeon solely for her wealth, tries to calm Min-jung down, insisting that the time to act is near. Their heated argument reveals a chilling truth: though their legal marriage lasted only eight years, they have actually been together for twenty-seven years. This revelation hints that Min-jung may have played a role in the mysterious deaths of Woo-joo’s late parents.

Back in Korea, Woo-joo notices Me-ri becoming distant and begins to worry. To reconnect, he plans a picnic, hoping to rekindle their bond. However, during the outing, Me-ri abruptly ends their relationship, leaving Woo-joo heartbroken and confused.

Meanwhile, Sang-hyun faces a professional crisis. He struggles to secure a new home inside Beaute Palace for the mayor’s terminally ill mother. When he explains that the new building will take ten months to complete, Sung-woo mocks and humiliates him in front of others. Later that evening, weighed down by stress, Sang-hyun goes for a run to clear his mind. Jin-gyeong notices his troubled state and presses him to open up. He admits only that someone has deeply insulted him and that he cannot afford to quit his job due to his difficult circumstances.

Back at the office, Woo-joo continues to dwell on Me-ri’s sudden breakup. When the company security team mentions that a strange man once came to complain about him, Woo-joo checks the surveillance footage. He is stunned to see Wu-ju holding a letter, which makes him realise that Wu-ju must have pressured Me-ri into ending things.

Later, Wu-ju confronts Me-ri again, begging her to take him back. Exhausted by his persistence, Me-ri finally snaps and declares that she intends to come clean about the house and their fake marriage. Enraged, Wu-ju becomes verbally abusive and raises his hand at her, but Woo-joo arrives just in time to intervene. He punches Wu-ju and threatens him with a recording that exposes his greed and criminal intentions. Furious and humiliated, Wu-ju storms off, vowing revenge.

After the confrontation, Me-ri and Woo-joo reconcile, vowing to stand by each other no matter what. Soon after, Myungsoondang’s company anniversary event arrives. Woo-joo tells his grandmother that he plans to bring someone special, which excites her greatly. On the day of the celebration, he proudly introduces Me-ri as the woman he loves. Ms Go is overjoyed, believing her grandson has finally found happiness.

Believing that Sung-woo and Sang-hyun will not attend the event, Woo-joo and Me-ri relax and enjoy the evening. However, their peace is shattered when they learn the two are on their way. Me-ri rushes out, only to encounter Ms Go, who warmly speaks about her grandson and casually reveals that he is the heir to the company. Unbeknownst to them, Sang-hyun overhears everything and becomes suspicious. He immediately calls Sung-woo, claiming he can arrange for the raffle house to be returned by the winners.
