The upcoming Frances McDormand film Women Talking is centred around the act of defiance by a group of women, who had been subjected to sexual abuse in their religiously isolated colony. The film is adapted from the 2018 novel of the same name by Canadian writer Miriam Toews. Plus, it had its world premiere at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival in the month of September.
The cast of the film includes Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Judith Ivey, Ben Whishaw, Sheila McCarthy and Michelle McLeod. It is directed by Canadian actress and writer Sarah Polley(Dawn of the Dead, Stories We Tell) and also produced by Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Frances McDormand. Luc Montpellier served as the cinematographer on the film while Christopher Donaldson and Rosyln Kalloo were the editors.
Women Talking Trailer Breakdown

The trailer for the riveting drama starts off with the introduction of the isolated religious colony for the women. We can see everyone from young girls to middle-aged women, spending their time in fields and living quarters. For a momentary pause of time, they seem happy and free.
However, the bright side doesn’t last long and the trailer comes quickly to its titular subject. It is revealed that the women living inside these isolated colonies are subjected to sexual abuse by the men belonging to the ultraconservative faith. They are constantly taken advantage of, and fear for their safety and security.

After highlighting the pain and suffering of these women, the trailer shifts to the chapter on their defiance. The montages of anger-filled faces followed by expressive monologues take over the screen and provide a deeper look into their struggle for freedom.

Will they succeed in their defiance of justice? Will the constant abuse get exposed? or will any one of them go back to the momentary pause of peace and living?
Academy Award Nominated Sarah Polley’s Women Talking is an honest adaptation of Miriam Toews’ novel, and critiques the patriarchal oppression faced by the women of the secluded colony. The film is produced by the makers of critically acclaimed oscar-winning films like Moonlight(2016) and La La Land(2016). Whereas the executive producers include Brad Pitt, Lyn Lucibelllo Brancatella, and Emily Jade Foley.
Moreover, Sarah Polley received high praise for his direction at the initial premiere of the film. Followed by the strong performance of the ensemble at TFF. Followed by the screening at New York Film Festival and the American Film Institute.
Notably, Moreover, the film has a running time of one hour and forty-four minutes.
