Poetically releasing on the titular day of the week, Wednesday Addams‘ full trailer has finally made the rounds and has us all pumped for the latest dark comedy Netflix series based on the characters created by Tim Burton. The Wednesday family has always been a hot topic among the fans. With this show introducing us to the mysterious grounds of the Nevermore Academy, all the focus will be on characters played by Christina Ricci, Jenna Ortega, Fred Armisen, and more.
The upcoming show is set to follow the eponymous character during her youthful years, as she attempts to harness her psychic powers at the Academy. However, the story isn’t as simple and straightforward as it seems. With Alfred Gough bringing the renowned supernatural family back to the screen, Danny Elfman musically aestheticizes the TV series.

Wednesday Addams Trailer Breakdown
The gates to Nevermore Academy open up, welcoming us as well as the titular character to a place that welcomes everyone to “learn and grow”. With her new roommate greeting her, Wednesday‘s (Jenna Ortega) choice of attire seems to be in stark contrast with the surroundings, or as her mother, Morticia Gomez (Catherine Zeta-Jones) puts it, “she’s allergic to color”.
In a room full of white-dressed fencers, she’s the only one wearing black with the iconic signature pigtails, that were once worn by Christina Ricci in the ’90s The Addams Family franchise, wherein she helmed the lead. Heading forth with a pretense that she doesn’t care whether people dislike her, Addams’ thoughts reveal that “deep down” she actually relishes the idea.

Also appearing in the previous movie series, a mere ‘hand’ creature is revealed to be her companion, which came to be known as the Thing. Ortega’s character engages in her training at the premises and seems to be doing quite well until she’s caught off guard by the location itself. “Secret societies, hidden libraries, a homicidal monster” and more secrets are harbored by the place, and Wednesday can feel it.
Finally, she has another comrade on her journey to uncover the suspense (other than the Thing of course), Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen), “who likes to travel incognito” on his pooch patrol wagon, which is so not in sync with the idea. Eventually, Wednesday begins her mission of diving into all these dark secrets alongside her few new friends.

Christina Ricci also shows up in the end and is revealed to be playing the role of Marylin Thornhill, another one of Nevermore’s staff. Moreover, as mentioned before, her act of welcoming Ortega as the new rendition of the character played by her earlier mirrors the grand passing on of the baton from one generation to the next.
The rest is a swift montage of a glimpse into the gothic reality of Wednesday‘s life at Nevermore and the trials she is put through to save the people of the town from the puzzling murderous turn of events. All the dots align, hinting back to the supernatural secrecy that riddled her family years ago.
