WarnerMedia Strikes Deal with Charter for HBO Max Distribution

Customers who subscribe to HBO through Charter are in for a treat. In a new deal between WarnerMedia and Charter, Spectrum users will get HBO Max when it launches next month.

The deal holds true for Charter’s Silver and Gold video packages. All of Charter’s HBO subscribers will automatically be able to access HBO Max at no additional charge. Additionally, customers do not need to do anything other than sign in to the HBO Max app. Along with this, other Charter customers will be able to purchase HBO Max through their cable and internet provider. This is just like how current HBO subscribers have access to HBO Go – Max is a step up for those already using HBO.

The upgrade consists of an expanded library of programmes both old and new at the same price as HBO.

WarnerMedia Strikes Deal with Charter for HBO Max Distribution 3

HBO Max is all set to come out in May, with a robust set of programmes to keep subscribers entertained. These include programmes from other WarnerMedia brands like TNT, TBS, CNN and Warner Bros. On top of that, the $15 per month service will also offer an array of original movies and TV shows.

“This new premium streaming experience will be a welcome addition to Spectrum subscribers; we will offer HBO Max on a multitude of platforms for purchase by our video, broadband and mobile customers alike,” said Tom Montemagno, Charter’s executive vice president of programming acquisition.

Partnering with various carriers has always been an important step for the direct-to-consumer streaming platform. According to AT&T and WarnerMedia, it is extremely important for HBO Max to be available to as many people as possible. With that in mind, Charter is a great step forward, considering it is one of the biggest cable providers in the United States. It comes in league with AT&T and Comcast, who launched their own streaming service, Peacock, last week.

Along with Charter, AT&T will also migrate its own network to the app. Approximately 10 million of AT&T’s HBO subscribers and HBO Now direct billing subscribers will get HBO Max at no additional cost. Moreover, customers of AT&T’s premium video, mobile and broadband packages will be offered bundles with HBO Max at launch at no additional cost. In addition to this, AT&T worked out a deal with YouTube so that HBO Max is offered via YouTube TV.

According to AT&T, HBO Max will have 50 million subscribers in the United States by 2024.

The tactic is great, considering HBO Max is one of the most expensive streaming services in the field at the moment. It is supposed to be $14.99 per month, which is similar to what customers pay for the network via cable packages. It is also the price of HBO Now, the channel’s current standalone streaming app.
