Unseen: Did Zenzi Succeed in Killing Raymond? Read What Went Wrong

Netflix uploads content from all over the world, some so good that they go on to win awards and set precedents. Unseen shares a story that stands on a female character that unapologetically moves through the narrative. This show stars Gail Mabalane, Vuyo Dabula, Brendon Daniels, Hein de Vries, Ilse Klink, Mothusi Magano, Waldemar Schultz, Dineo Langa, Abduragman Adams, Shimmy Isaacs, Rapulana Seiphemo, Colin Moss, Shamilla Ismail Miller, Clifford Young and Lehasa Moloi.

Based on the book Fatma by Özgür Önurme, this show is adapted for television by Travis Taute and Daryne Joshua. The former also joins the crew as a director along with Rolisizwe Nikiwe and Twiggy Matiwana. Unseen is written by Sean Drummond, Meesha Aboo and Tristram Atkins and produced by Benjamin Overmeyer.

Does Zenzi Get Her Revenge in Unseen?

Zenzi has been living through absolute hell this season. She has had to kill multiple people, fight against men who think of her body as public property and live in a condition that isn’t fit for anybody. We start by seeing her utterly stressed about the fact that her husband hasn’t come home. She thinks that he must have visited his boss Raymond’s place, so she goes there. She sees that the whole shop is in chaos because of something that happened before. Raymond is stressed and can barely stand the sight of her.

They all trust each other at the moment, but the instant she steals his gun to kill a rival, all the trust built over time falls off like the house of cards. Since then, Raymond has been on her back trying to return this gun so he can absolve himself of any guilt when it comes to the murders that she has committed. The one problem he can solve is his boss breathing down his neck. Blessing Jali, the head of the Syndicate, has been instrumental in putting Zen’s husband in jail and is now living a luxurious life.

After a series of unfortunate events, which mostly include a bunch of murders, Zen thinks it best to join Raymond and kill Blessing. The job is pretty simple, but it gets complicated when he takes notice of her and threatens to shoot her in his office. The situation has escalated enough for Raymond’s second-in-command, Joseph, to come and babysit her and possibly get the gun back. However, Zen has built enough of a reputation for audiences to expect that she will kill him, and that’s what she does.

The kill count so far is Jackson, Enrico, the Syndicate lackey, Blessing and finally, Joseph. At this point, the neighbours are after her, the police officers are after her, and so is Raymond, whose entire goal is to get the gun back. He will stop at nothing. When Zen runs away from this town to expose the crimes of the Syndicate, Raymond follows her and corners her, but at that time, the gun is with Max, so he is left with nothing.

The police take her, and Raymond is left helpless. The higher-ups at the Syndicate have also taken him, hostage. However, Zen discovers at the police station that Raymond’s gun was used to kill her son. Max has passed away, and now the only thing to do is avenge his death by making sure people from the Syndicate are brought down, starting with him. As she escapes from the clutches of both the police and the kidnappers, she makes her way to the club where Blessing used to control the operation. She sets a single room on fire and ensures no one else is hurt.

Now that the club has evacuated, Zen is free to make her way to Raymond, who looks like he is in a worse position than before. Bloody, beat up and desperate for his inhaler. She has the gun, and she can shoot him, but she doesn’t because she knows that there is no way she can come back from this crime. The situation is all under her control. She gave him the gun but emptied the mag out of it and took away his inhaler so he could asphyxiate on the smoke from the fire.

If we really think about this, killing him using the gun would be too easy a punishment for his crime, but this draws it out and makes her come out on top with all the power moves. She can rest now that revenge has been served and things have been set right. But the Syndicate still lives, and their corruption still goes on. Perhaps, Zenzi will return to help the officers solve this case in the next season.
