Under the Banner of Heaven Teaser: Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Grisly Murder Mystery

The official Under the Banner of Heaven teaser is out now. The limited series is a true-crime drama that is based on the nonfiction book by Jon Krakauer of the same name. The story is adapted for television by Oscar-winning Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black and directed by David Mackenzie, who is best known for Hell or High Water. The trailer features a star cast against a very True Detective-like palate.

Andrew Garfield is going to headline the series as Pyre with Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones as Brenda Lafferty. The rest of the cast includes Sam Worthington, Denise Gough, Wyatt Russell, Billy Howle, Gil Birmingham, Adelaide Clemens, Rory Culkin, Seth Numrich, Chloe Pirrie, Sandra Seacat and, Christopher Heyerdahl. Fans are very excited to see Garfield step into this new arena of crime thriller, playing a detective and devotee and, having his beliefs questioned.

In the Under the Banner of Heaven trailer, we see Andrew Garfield’s Detective Pyre, a police officer as well as a member of the Church of Latter-day Saints Elder question some of the teachings advocated by the church as he investigates a double-murder. Pyre is taken aback by the horrific nature of the crimes committed and, questions everything that makes up his life.

The teaser lends us the scintillating voice of Garfield saying, “The evidence points to things and to beliefs that I’ve only ever heard whisperings about”, hinting towards how the murders committed are an in-community thing.

The synopsis of the show’s teaser reads: “A devout detective’s faith is tested as he investigates a brutal murder that seems to be connected to an esteemed Utah family’s spiral into LDS fundamentalism and their distrust in the government. Andrew Garfield will star as “Pyre,” an LDS elder who is committed to his Church and family but begins to question some of the Church’s teachings through his contact with a suspected murderer. Daisy Edgar-Jones stars as “Brenda,” a young faithful Mormon who is the victim of a brutal murder.”
