Uncle From Another World Episode 6 Review- A Sad Past
This was a much better outing than usual for the show. The events here made sense as part of the pattern the show has established for itself while still standing out on its own without looking too formulaic. It being more or less the origin story for Uncle’s life as a vigilante bounty hunter in his isekai world also helped, as origin stories are known for setting the tone for the show. It’s just that this one came too late to do anything except being a decent standalone episode.

We saw Uncle be captured for the first time and mistaken for an orc in the last episode, alongside looking at the power he asked for with the one wish he got. In typical Isekai fashion, his translation powers turned out to be extremely helpful in the end when he figured out how to use them to their maximum potential. However, this show made it feel way less cliched by familiarising us with Uncle’s way of thinking throughout the runtime, making his ascension feel more natural than it usually feels in shows like this.
Sadness and contemplation have also been a running theme for Isekai Uncle, although it is almost as subtle as a bag of rocks in the way it is presented. That is not a negative, as it is more of a stylistic choice, but it is still worth mentioning. This is the kind of show that prefers to speak everything out loud as soon as it happens without leaving anything up for the viewers’ understanding, and that’s what happened here. Uncle’s rise from the bottom was as unsubtle as it gets, but it was still well-written and executed.

We also got to see his first interaction with Elf here, which showcased to us how misrepresented she was in the eyes of Uncle, who is the definition of an unreliable narrator. He can be extraordinarily dumb at times, and him being seventeen and a NEET at the time certainly didn’t help his case. Tsundere-chan (what Takafumi calls her, this one is on him) is a more reasonable character than imagined, and Uncle, like always, is a colossal idiot. He does have a heart of gold though, for all the good that does.
She and Mable make up a huge part of this plotline, although their infatuation with Uncle can only lead to bad things, considering we already know he never has a relationship beyond what he already has with either of them. He is also now back in his original world, having left them behind. Takafumi and Fujimiya were mere bystanders for this episode without much to add, but their limited contributions were still a fun part of this episode. Overall, this was a solid outing for the show.
Verdict
Uncle From Another World Episode 6 was a well-written episode that featured the origin story of Uncle done in a way only this show can. It even featured the original SEGA startup sound. It doesn’t get much better than that.
