Trapped In A Dating Sim Episode 3 Review- Getting on the same page

If you have seen the meme from Community where a character walks into a room on fire with pizza in his hands, you have an idea of the reaction I had when I saw the reaction of the anime community on this anime. Apparently, we are watching the worst anime of the season, which is badly written and awfully animated. Even its own author doesn’t want it to exist. It is that bad. Of course, if the internet believes it to be true, it must be. In case it is unclear, that was a facetious statement. The Internet can and has been wrong countless times in the past, and this is one of those times.

The major complaint seems to be that the show’s animation is bad. How do people come up with such things? All they need to do is take a look at the show and see for themselves how untrue that is. It might not be the same animation style that the manga used, but who cares about that as long as the show looks good? There are also a ton of bad faith criticism of its plot floating around. It is not the most highbrow and polished thing in the world, but it is unique, interesting, and charming in its own way. At least give the show a try before putting it down just for not looking like you expected?

Trapped In A Dating Sim Episode 3 proved that it has a lot of things going for it that make it a highly entertaining watch. The concept on its own is great, but the added twist of the main character of this game also being an outsider like our protagonist gives it a lot of weight and unique ways to progress the plot. The thing that elevates it the most is that the other outsider, Marie, doesn’t know that Leon, our protagonist, is also aware of this game’s existence, creating a fantastic and exploitable dynamic between the two.

Angelica’s subplot is also a surprising hit so far. She would have been a villain in the otome game, but seeing her from the side as a mob, it is hard not to feel sympathetic for her character. Anyone would feel sad if the love of their life got stolen by a newbie who somehow has the entire school in the palm of her hand despite being a plain audience insert. In that way, it is also metacommentary on the wackiness of the entire genre, and unlike some other shows, it is able to do that without appearing cringeworthy or subconsciously calling out itself for making the same mistakes.

Trapped In A Dating Sim Episode 3 also made Leon put his best foot forward as he put forward his best scene yet. It came out of nowhere, but it made sense with who he is and how he feels about this world he is stuck in. It was also the most interesting plot development the show has had in its short history. The future looks bright for this show because it seems to be leaning into the weirdness and having fun with the unique world it has developed. Don’t listen to the haters, friends. If you like something, defend them like it’s the last hill you will ever die on.
Verdict
Trapped In A Dating Sim Episode 3 was a great episode that made some strides in making this show more interesting and entertaining than it already was. This unique story seems to be given enough time and space to expand naturally, which is good.
