This Is Us Season 5 Recap: Kids, Weddings And Heartbreaks!

All the episodes of This Is Us Season 5 are streaming for the Indian audience on Disney+ Hotstar. The Pearsons have come a long way since they started four years ago but are nowhere close to bringing their lives together. The older and the younger generation in their family has gone through significant life changes. The fifth season was another prime example of the same.

Season 5 has 16 episodes which are written and directed by various writers and directors. Creators Dan Fogelman, Isaac Aptaker, and Elizabeth Berger are also some of them. The series stars Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K Brown, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, Jon Huertas, Caitlin Thompson and Griffin Dunne. However, before you read This Is Us Season 5 Recap, let me warn you that this post contains spoilers.

In the first episode of This Is Us Season 5, most of us wanted to know what went wrong between The Big Three – Kate (Chrissy Metz), Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Randall (Sterling K Brown) on their fortieth birthday. We know that it has something to with their mom’s Alzheimer’s, but nothing more than that. But in the episode, the makers have highlighted the real-life story of George Floyd’s murder cops in Minneapolis last year. The act of racism leaves Randall, and his family worried. The episode highlights Randall’s fears from childhood as no one in his all-white family were aware of what racism feels like. The episode is solid and handles the issue in a sensitive yet impactful manner.

This Is Us Season 5 Recap: Randall and Kevin

In Season 5, Kate and Toby (Chris Sullivan) wish to become parents again. Madison (Caitlin Thompson) is pregnant with Kevin’s child (twins) after their one-night stand. The new Big Three makes its way into the story. Randall’s shirtless video goes viral that helps him to find the whereabouts of his birth mom! We all were shown in glimpses that during her teenage days, Kate was in an abusive relationship with a guy named Marc. The season will finally reveal more about it as Kate speaks up.

Amid the tension surrounding the lives of Randall, Kevin and Kate’s lives, we are treated with flashbacks of their parents, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) life when the trio were kids. Yet again, the makers have drawn parallels with the Big Three’s life with some challenges their parents faced back then. Beth and Randall’s daughter Tess has come out as a lesbian in the previous season. But Beth and Tess’ relationship has troubles, and it reminds us of Kate’s equation with Rebecca.

This Is Us Season 5: Still from the show

The main focus of the fifth season has been Kevin and Madison after their twins’ birth. The duo decides to get married, but we never get to see any romance between them. This Is Us Season 5’s last episode was the wedding episode. While one theory of the fans came out true, the last one minute has left everyone shocked. When we all were preparing for the ‘Kevison’ wedding, the writers had someone else’s big day planned in their minds. The twist is going to break many fans’ hearts.

This Is Us season 5 is heartwarming, heartbreaking, has good twists and endearing moments. The makers have cut down two episodes and gave us only 16 episodes this season. While that’s a complaint, the latest season has been far away from any disappointment. Randall and Kate have come a long way, and their characters have developed a lot. But Kevin is behind in the race, and we wonder if there’s anything good coming for and from him in the sixth season, which is the series finale. While showing the present and the past, there are some scenes where the trio’s kids are adults. That’s another time jump that will be addressed in the final season.

This Is Us Season 5 Recap: Is it worth watching?

Well, that’s all I can sum up in my This Is Us Season 5 recap for you all. There are some major developments and story arcs that will be carried forward in the final season in 2022. The season has highlighted many important social topics and also highlighted the pandemic. So if you are yet to watch the series, do not waste any more time and just go for it.
