The Woman in Cabin 10 Review

Mystery thrillers are a dime a dozen on Netflix, and Keira Knightley’s The Woman in Cabin 10 is no different. From the moment terminal patient Anne reveals her intentions after her death, it becomes clear what the mystery is about to be and who is about to die in the film. However, viewers who enjoy light-hearted mysteries that don’t make their heads hurt with their twists and turns will find this moderately satisfying because it presents its story well.

The story follows a journalist who finds herself in the midst of a bunch of pretentious rich people who will kill at the drop of a hat. When, thus, she witnesses a woman falling overboard one night, she is immediately on the hunt for the victim and the culprit, but, of course, faces some hurdles. The film is extremely uncomplicated and simple, and the feat is almost impressive. It follows an almost linear path to the answers and tells it all in the most simplistic way possible.

Maybe watching The Resurrection yesterday left my brain in a bit of a twist or something, but it’s this overt simplicity that actually charmed me this time around. There’s absolutely nothing new or remotely surprising here, but I still found the movie to be quite cosy and comforting, and it reminded me of crime-mystery films that I used to watch when I was a child.

As mentioned previously, if you’re a fan of crime thrillers, you will be able to realise from the very first moment where the story is headed. However, the film still tries to create a good amount of tension that it holds on to till the end, although it moves on a tried and tested beat that never tries to overcome that hurdle at any point. No worries, though, I don’t think most viewers will leave feeling too dissatisfied.

The Woman in Cabin 10 Review: Guy Pearce

Keira Knightley and Guy Pearce are mostly the only two people who matter here, and both are great. Both of their characters have very little going for them, and we know nothing about them beyond their mentioned professions. Laura is a true-blue journalist, while Richard is the shady rich guy. All the other characters are equally dull and forgettable, and add literally nothing to the runtime whatsoever.

The Woman in Cabin 10 Review: Keira Knightley

The Woman in Cabin 10 is good for a light, forgettable mystery night that doesn’t make you think at all. It works on familiar beats and delivers what’s promised, but if you require literally anything more than that, it’s probably wise to look elsewhere!
