The Victims’ Game Season 2 Ending Explained
The Victims’ Game S2 opens with a flashback to Fang Yi-jen’s youth, depicting his time as a student at a school. During this period, he faced accusations in an assault case involving a friend, vehemently denying the allegations but finding little belief from others. However, Lin Ching-lui emerged as a pivotal figure, offering support and insight into the case. Ching-lui’s understanding led to the revelation that Yi-jen, despite being viewed as different due to his Autism Spectrum Disorder, possessed a unique perspective. This connection blossomed into a mentorship, ultimately shaping Yi-jen into a forensic detective.
Fast forward to the present day, when Ching-lui has tragically passed away. Following his demise, a new prosecutor reopens a long-dormant case, a 15-year-old murder-suicide involving teenage lovers. Remarkably, this is the very case Yi-jen and Ching-lui had previously solved together, marking a poignant continuation of their partnership even in Ching-lui’s absence.
Fang Yi-jen receives a message from a woman on his phone, urging him to meet her. She happens to be the mother of Hsiao Chen-ying, the girl implicated in a 15-year-old murder-suicide case involving teenage lovers. She accuses Yi-jen of mishandling the investigation and insists her daughter was murdered. Before Fang Yi-jen could meet the woman, she tragically falls from the building, casting a shadow of suspicion over him as he becomes the sole witness to the incident and the prime suspect in the eyes of the law.

The prosecutor is convinced of Yi-jen’s involvement, theorizing that he seeks to clear his and his mentor’s names from any wrongdoing in the original case. Soon after, a series of murders unfolds, each with eerie connections to the past tragedy. First, pop singer Yuan Chi-ling is found murdered, her throat slit with a recorder placed inside—a recorder identical to the one Chen-ying’s mother had sent Yi-jen, claiming it held evidence of her daughter’s murder. As Yi-jen delves deeper into the case, another victim, Lia Gu-yen, Chen-ying and Chi-ling’s friend, is also killed, solidifying the interconnectedness of the crimes.
Fang Yi-jen delved into the case and uncovered a photograph depicting a group of friends, including Lia Gu-yen, Chen-ying, Chi-ling, and others. This revelation strongly suggested that either the murderer or the next victim hailed from among the individuals in the image. With Cheng-kuan and Hsin-ning by his side, Fang Yi-jen embarked on a quest to identify the next victim and apprehend the suspect. Their investigation led them to Wu Chun-lu, who happened to be one of the people in the photo.
Upon attempting to arrest him, Wu Chun-lu pointed the finger at Lin Ming-cheng, revealing that the true culprit behind the crimes was Lin Ming-cheng, the son of Lin Chang-jui. This revelation dispelled any doubts regarding Chang-jui’s involvement in the case, indicating his complicity in tampering with evidence and misleading the investigation.

How did Hsiao Chen-ying and Chen Yang-yu die?
Fifteen years ago, Hsiao Chen-ying and her friends made a daring escape from their homes, feeling neglected and overwhelmed by family pressures. They yearned for freedom, so they impulsively stole a bus and fled. However, as they journeyed into the mountains, the weather worsened, and some of them wanted to turn back. Hsiao Chen-ying, determined to forge ahead, resisted. Among them, Lin Ming-Cheng harboured feelings for her and, seeing her distress as their friends contemplated abandoning their plan, brandished a gun to deter them. Tragically, in the struggle to disarm him, Chen Yang-yu was fatally shot.
In the aftermath of the chaos, fear gripped the group, prompting them to seek help at a hospital. Yet, Hsiao Chen-ying vehemently opposed this, ultimately meeting her demise in the ensuing confrontation. With two friends dead, Lin Ming-Cheng had no choice but to confide in his father, a forensic detective. Exploiting his position, Lin’s father manipulated the evidence to frame Hsiao Chen-ying for Chen Yang-yu’s death before staging her suicide. Fang Yi-jen, accepted this narrative without scrutiny, influenced by his own personal distractions. Meanwhile, Lin Chang-jui capitalized on the situation, furthering the deception.

Who Was Hsueh Hsin-ning?
While delving into the case, Fang Yi-jen grew increasingly suspicious of Hsin-ning’s consistent reactions to the evidence. Even when confronted, she adamantly expressed that he was not meant to be a forensic detective, a sentiment echoed by Hsiao Min-chen. Intrigued, Fang Yi-jen returned to the lab to examine Min-chen’s body, only to discover it had been sent for cremation, authorized by the prosecutor. This revelation shocked him – how could a body be cremated when the case was still open?
Simultaneously, Fang Yi-jen visited Hsueh’s house and stumbled upon a wall adorned with photos of the victim, her father, and herself. This discovery solidified his suspicions: Hsueh Hsin-ning was indeed the murderer. With the prosecutor in tow, Fang Yi-jen raced to halt the cremation, but they were too late. Determined, he hurried back to the lab to conduct a DNA test on the sweatshirt found at the scene. However, the results didn’t match, indicating that Hsiao Min was not deceased.
Teaming up with his daughter and Hsu Hai, Fang Yi-jen embarked on uncovering the connection between Hsueh Hsin-ning and Hsiao Min. Their investigation unveiled that the two had once worked together, and the real Hsueh Hsin had succumbed to cancer. In a startling twist, Hsiao Min underwent plastic surgery to assume Hsueh Hsin’s identity, driven by a desire for vengeance against her daughter’s killer.

What Happened to Fang Yi-jen?
After uncovering Hsueh Hsin’s true identity, Fang Yi-jen rushed to rescue Lin Ming-cheng, who had been abducted and subjected to torture. The ordeal was recorded and broadcasted alongside footage of other victims. Upon seeing Hsueh Hsin’s old home in the video, Fang’s daughter recognized it from a photo she had seen there during a previous visit, which featured Hsueh Hsin and her daughter. Determined to save Lin Ming-cheng, Fang, his daughter, and Hsu Hai set out for the location. However, at a gas station, Fang concerned for Hsu Hai and his daughter’s safety, deceived and drove alone to the scene.
By the time Fang arrived, Lin Ming-cheng had already sustained severe injuries and been taken away by Hsueh Hsin. As the police searched the area, they discovered another victim, later identified as Hsiao Min’s husband. Hsueh Hsin then restrained Fang Yi-jen and forced him to confess, revealing how his focus on his sick daughter had led to a critical error in the case. Despite enduring torture, Fang’s confession was broadcast, prompting his daughter to realize the depth of her father’s love and their mutual misunderstanding.

Recognizing a familiar sound in the video, Fang’s daughter deduced the possible location and raced there, only to find that Hsueh Hsin had relocated Fang Yi-jen. Intuitively, she recalled a lyric mentioning a tunnel and a place of rebirth, leading her to search in that vicinity. Just as Hsueh Hsin was about to shoot Fang Yi-jen, Xiao-meng intervened, reminding her of her daughter. Despite her initial rage, Hsueh Hsin couldn’t bring herself to harm Xiao-meng. Instead, she aimed the gun at herself but before she could pull the trigger, Fang Yi-jen leaped to stop her. The timely arrival of the police resulted in Hsueh Hsin’s arrest.
In the aftermath, as Fang Yi-jen and his daughter processed the events, their bond gradually strengthened, indicating a newfound understanding between them. Similarly, Hsu Hai’s relationship with them also improved over time.
At the conclusion, Mr. Chang meets with the deputy director of the police force. The deputy director commends Chang for his outstanding work on the case and praises him. However, Chang surprises him by threatening to reveal the police department’s mishandling of other unresolved cold cases. Chang then visits a prison, where a woman in a white suit appears. He gives her a ring, similar to the one he has worn throughout the series, suggesting his connection to a significant organization. Cheng-Kuan witnesses the entire interaction.
In the final moments of season 2, we discover a cold case from 30 years ago, when Chang was six and the only witness to a terrible event. The details of this event will be unveiled in the anticipated third season.
Taiwanese series The Victims’ Game Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
