The Survivors Review
Ah, man – I don’t think I ever felt as incensed as I felt while watching The Survivors on Netflix. The series, starring Charlie Vickers and Yerin Ha, is a blend of mystery and thriller that will leave you with many different feelings. The series showcases a string of unfortunate deaths in a small, coastal town that suddenly turns out to be more than what people had originally thought. However, most importantly, it’s a subtle showcase of how misogyny and poor emotional regulation destroy the lives of women.
The Survivors, however, mostly made me furious for all the crap that people threw at poor Mia. Only four months postpartum, that poor woman suffered so much emotional abuse at the hands of almost everyone in town. I mostly mention how no one in the world is completely good or bad, but man, it’s difficult to have sympathy for any of these townspeople, who are just so selfish. Thus, you root so fiercely for the few good people who actually care for those around them.

Either way, the series is a fantastic blend of mystery and social drama. It brings forth the twists and turns of the murder while also portraying the haunting realities that women face in their everyday lives. It’s not just the injustices that the murdered women face, but also those faced by the women who are alive. As mentioned previously, people simply pile on Mia every chance they get, and somehow no one ever apologises for it.
I loved the way the series makes its way into our hearts and minds. It makes us dig into the matter at hand with Mia, Trish and everyone else who give a damn about the young girls. You root for them every step of the way, and the red herrings that the show throws our way only make things more intense. It showcases the burden of trauma and the deep secrets that these small communities hold close to their chests for one reason or another.

The reveal is equally fantastic and is made more intense thanks to the family drama aspect of it. Charlie Vickers, Yerin Ha, Robyn Malcolm and Damien Garvey are simply fantastic. I couldn’t help but shed a tear or two thanks to Garvey’s fantastic portrayal of Brian as he is harassed for no fault of his own. It’s so heartbreaking, and you care because of the story that gives us a deep understanding of the characters, as well as for the performances.
Final Thoughts
I thoroughly enjoyed The Survivors. It’s a fantastic show that will leave you on edge throughout and blends the crime-mystery-thriller aspects with the emotional/more dramatic part of it super well. All in all, this one’s a must-watch.

We watched the first two episodes. While the story may turn out to be great (I’ll never know), the acting was laughable.
A ridiculously SLOWWWWWW BURN. i suffered as long as possible and actually gave up halfway through the 3rd episode. Not a bit interested watching to the end to find out “who did what to whom”.
