The Mosquito Coast Season 2 Episode 2: Least Concern Species
The episode started off with Allie trying to make Dina understand the basics of sailing a boat. As they were manoeuvring across an unknown water body, things started to go south soon. They learn that a part of the boat has been damaged and opened, which allows the water to enter their space. Allie calculates that they have around 4 hours to fix the damage, or they will drown along with the boat.
As they were trying their best to fix the immediate problem, they were yet again faced with another when Allie was almost under the attack of a crocodile. Luckily, he escapes the death trap quickly, but little does he know; that is not the only life-threatening issue he will face.
Soon after, Allie starts feeling under the weather and is left unconscious on the boat. His concerned family tries to find the cause of it, and Charlie notices that he is bitten by a deadly native insect that can lead to heart failure soon if he is not treated soon. Right then, Margot comes up with a plan to go to the nearest oil rig in search of medication.
As both Margot and Charlie set out on their journey, Dina is left on the board to take care of her ill father. During the journey, both mother and son reconnect while talking about various events that occurred during their escape. They start sharing their opinions and different views, which brings them closer. Meanwhile, Dina tries to mend the boat and save their only home left.

After many attempts, Dina finally can fix the boat by attaching life jackets and a wooden board along the damaged part of the boat. She proudly goes back to her father and lets him know about the good news. As she looks at her sickly father, she comforts him by telling him the stories of their childhood, and they share quality time.
Margot and Charlie find the medication that can seemingly cure Allie, and then they head back. Heavily medicated, Allie wakes up finally and starts commending his family for standing up to the difficult situation and facing it head-on. Entrusting both their children with the boat, he goes back to sleep.
The Mosquito Coast Season 2 Episode 2 Final Thoughts

The episode tried hard to show the audience a different view of the family, and how they function when they are all alone when faced with problems and no help, but it did not come through. The plot holes in the episode are hard to miss out on. Even the scene involving a crocodile seemed underwhelming. When he was again faced with another deadly situation, Charlie, a teenage boy with just one look, could tell what caused the wound; the required medicine for the cure and everyone took his word for it.
The only excitement in the entire episode would be when the mother-son duo was met with a stranded and bloody oil rig left by some intruders. Whatever was going on in the boat was nothing worthwhile to witness. This episode would easily be called a filler with how less focus it required one to watch it.
Furthermore, the episode did nothing to redeem the season. It was bland and lacked good storytelling. The performances of the actors, except for Justin, were also substandard. The only positive thing that can be listed is the cinematography and its beautiful locations.
