The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 5 Review: The Great Jahy isn’t Suspicious?!

How are we only at Episode 5? Saying “The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 5” just feels wrong to me, for some reason. Some of it is due to the preemption, but a lot of it is because Jahy-Sama tells many stories in a single episode. Let’s see how it did in this one! This episode is also known in original Japanese as Jahy-Sama Wa Kujikenai Episode 5.

Simplicity is a hard thing to get right. For some, it causes a piece of media to feel empty and filled with tropes. In some cases, however, simplicity becomes an anime’s main strength. I believe that The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated is one of those anime. The characters in Jahy-Sama aren’t very complicated, but they are all still charming.

Jahy herself is the epitome of simplicity. She was very happy when she was the Dark Lord’s right hand, which is the same happiness she is trying to chase now. She doesn’t always succeed, but she tries her damnedest no matter what. She gets sad and is sometimes pushed to her limits, but she always perseveres. All of this is because of her heart, which is as pure as it can be. She does a lot of good, no matter how much suffering she has endured and how much she really wants to be evil.

The other characters understand that, especially the Landlord and the Boss, who stand up for Jahy and help her whenever she needs it, even if she is too proud to admit it. Their dynamic is very sweet and a pleasure to witness. The other characters didn’t make much of an impact in The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 5 apart from a new one, the very same magical girl who destroyed Jahy’s original world. We didn’t see her for very long, but she was a fun character with many upsides.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 5 Review- The Plot

Simplicity was also the name of the game for the plot of The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 5. Jahy looks for mana crystals, gets arrested, gets sick, and is cared for. Within such a small parameter, the showrunners tell an intricate story displaying how much people close to Jahy care about her and how much she has earned their care.

We truly see the desperation that Jahy experiences and feel for her. The loneliness is something that we can all relate to in one way or another and thus can understand the plight of Jahy. Thus, in every episode, we feel ourselves rooting for Jahy like we haven’t rooted for anyone else. It’s because she deserves it, even if she doesn’t know it yet.

The show is also really funny, and some situations that jahy is put in are responsible for a whole lot of chuckles. Jahy managed to make us laugh, make us almost cry, and desperate in a single episode. This is something better than a normal fang-bait, guys.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 5 Review- Art and Music

Not really much to say here, for once. Everything that The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 5 did in these two departments was solid but nothing of note. The voice actress for the magical girl seems like a great casting for now, and I can’t wait to see more of her in the future. I hope Jahy kicks her ass. She deserves it.

Verdict

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 5 was astounding in its simplistic charm. Everything worked, and nothing felt like it didn’t belong in a charming slice of life show. Can’t wait for the next episode!
