The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 4 Review: Saurva Never Slips up?

It is absolutely hilarious that The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 4 was pre-empted due to golf. Golf. GOLF. I love how in character this is for Jahy-Sama. It absolutely couldn’t have happened to any other anime this season. Only Jahy must bear this curse of being defeated by golf, of all things. Let’s move on, and see how this episode was. This episode is also known in original Japanese as Jahy-Sama Wa Kujikenai Episode 4.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 4 Review- The Characters

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 4 Saurva

Someone ring the new character bell because there’s a good one to talk about today. The one this episode is named after, Saurva, is another interesting character in a show that is full of them. Saurva shares a unique relationship with Jahy-Sama. She wants to dethrone her from her position as the second in command of the dark lord. There’s only one tiny problem- she is very incompetent.

Jahy is simultaneously the luckiest and unluckiest person in the whole show. She somehow falls into so many bad situations due to her just being plain stupid (for the sake of comedy, of course), but she always has the luck on her side to help her escape almost any situation. Other characters usually interpret this as her ingenuity, which is again very helpful to Jahy.

I adore the relationship that Jahy shares with her boss, as she is a parental figure to Jahy, alongside being very kind towards her. Not often do you see a relationship this pure, and once you see it, you have to preserve it. The landlord is also great in her different way, and it is always fun to watch her interact with everyone in the show.

If you pay attention to the opening, you will see that some more characters are yet to be introduced in the show. Things could get very interesting really quick in The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 4. There’s also a really cute dog in this episode, and you should sign my petition to make the dog a main character in the show. We are almost at two signatures.

Come to think of it, nothing happened in The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 4. We got introduced to Saurva, and there were some shenanigans there, then Jahy was broke again, and there were some shenanigans there. This episode was more to introduce and familiarise different characters rather than create new plot lines. That kind of thing is perfectly okay from time to time.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated is a unique show because it doesn’t really follow the same formula as those other fanged girl anime shows, you know the ones. Jahy isn’t flashing herself everywhere to thrill others or even for our pleasure. Yeah, she wears skimpy clothing, but that’s about the extent of it. The show never really fixates on them, and they turned out to be mostly design choices more than anything.

The show is actually about morality and consequences. Good only happens to Jahy when she does some good herself. If she is bad, bad things happen to her. We see her trying to be a better person and why she created this facade that she did. She is insecure and silly, but otherwise really good at heart, and most people in the show realise that. Everyone except Jahy, I guess.

All of this was a long-winded way of saying I like this show and how it tells its story. I am glad that I started watching this show because I always feel better after watching an episode like The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 4.

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 4 Review- Art and Music

The voice acting is as great as it always has been, and the voice actress of Saurva also did a phenomenal job with her. Jahy is as great as always, and her voice actress carries the show on her back sometimes. The opening theme is an absolutely fantastic tune that I heard a dozen times last week alone. All great stuff!

Verdict

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Episode 4 was fun! The episode isn’t anything special, but it has got heart. Lots and lots of it. It is delightful to see Jahy struggle through life and come out a better person at the end of it all. You should watch it too. It’s on Crunchyroll!
