Meeting The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt Episode 7

I know that everyone has already crowned Gojo and Marin from My Dress-up Darling as the best couple of this season, but hear me out. Did Gojo ever kill a rival king just because he insulted Marin, even though it might cost him his own life, or worse, his kingdom? Does there exist an existential hatred of Marin’s existence by most of their world, and has Gojo ever had to fight to protect her honour? Can Marin claim to be an accomplished sharpshooter and Gojo a genius master swordsman?

The answer to all the above questions is no, and for these reasons, I believe that Ninym and Wein deserve to be named alongside Gojo- Marin and Gabi- A Gun as the best couples of this season. All jest aside, the dynamic between Ninym and Wein is executed perfectly. Their conversation feels as natural as an elderly couple who have lived together for 40 years and are still in love with each other. Their personalities perfectly complement each other, as Ninym puts an end to all of Wein’s stupid ideas, and Wein protects her by putting everything on the line, including his life.

Even though the show is about Wein, as the title suggests, Ninym is just as important as him to the overall structure and functioning of the show. She and her people make up for a tough and important issue for this show, something that it explores very deeply in The Genius Prince’s Guide Episode 7. Her kind of people are considered subhuman in some lands, and it is truly admirable how Wein defends her honour even in the face of tough adversity.

Our righteous hero stumbled onto a deep conspiracy the previous week. The long setup would have you believe that this particular storyline would last a while, especially considering all the secondary characters that were in the mix. However, it ended in this episode. While the ending was great and far from unceremonious, it could have been stretched across a couple more episodes and been given more time to breathe. However, considering that the previous episode was the weakest in the show, perhaps it was good that the arc ended so quickly.

Genius Prince Episode 7 also features Wein using the big brain of his to put his foes against each other again. We saw him use this same trick to defeat his previous opponents, and while the circumstances and allegiances were different this time around, the plan was the same. It still worked well and contained enough nuance to it do set it apart from the other one, but this is hopefully the only other time the show does this. The show is heading in an interesting direction as new villains are introduced, and the future is uncertain but hugely exciting.

Verdict

The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt Episode 7 was a solid and highly entertaining outing for the show. While slightly flawed, this show is checking all the boxes for a fantastic and underrated show.
