The Empire Cast Promises A Visual Treat With Their Hotstar Special!

Disney+ Hotstar’s The Empire cast hosted a virtual press conference with the media today. At the press con, actors Kunal Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Drashti Dhami, Dino Morea and others marked their presence. Produced by Nikkhil Advani, the magnificent period drama series is directed by Mitakshara Kumar.

The Empire cast has some big roles to play in the Hotstar Special. Kunal Kapoor will essay King Babur, Shabana Azmi will play Esan Daulat, Drashti Dhami will be seen as Khanzada and actor Dino Morea will portray Shaibani Khan. The eight-episode series is creating a lot of buzz due to its trailer and the wonderful star cast.

During the press conference, every actor shared their thoughts on The Empire and their characters. Actor Kunal Kapoor said, “We have heard many stories about Babur and the Mughals, but very little about who they were, where they came from and how they came into India. In this fictional take, this is a character with a lot of complexities, and that is what intrigued me as an actor. The trailer is just a small glimpse into the world of The Empire.”

Shabana Azmi, who plays Esan Daulat, expressed, “For many years I have been fascinated by the imperial lives from the pages of history. We have seen and read many stories but the ones that I love the most are where women play strategic roles; much like my character in The Empire – she is fierce, confident and knows what she wants. I hope the audience enjoys watching her as much as I enjoyed playing her.”

Drashti Dhami shared, “It’s been an overwhelming experience – right from working with this brilliant team to actually seeing audience reaction on the trailer! Playing the role of Khanzada was challenging but equally empowering. Through Khanzada’s eyes you will see how strategy and planning comes into play and how easily allies become adversaries. Every day on the set of The Empire was an experience on its own and watching it all come together as a landmark in Indian entertainment, makes the journey even more gratifying.”

“Shaibani Khan is the most dynamic and interesting antagonist I have played in my career. For the character I had to be a different person altogether – menacing, shrewd and sometimes downright scary! From the moment I would put my costume on, I had to become that person, ‘Shaibani Khan’. The detailing, complexity and the love and hate for this character is what makes him so special. Can’t wait for audiences to see a different avatar of me through The Empire,” shared Dino Morea.

The Empire cast looks promising and we can’t wait to watch the series. The Hotstar Special will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from August 27, 2021.
