The Devil Is A Part-Timer Season 2 Episode 10 Review- We Need A TV

So much of the old feeling that used to be while watching the first season of this show was present in this episode that it seemed like being transported back into the good old year of 2013. Mind you, I didn’t actually watch the show when it first came out and checked it out much later than its release. But this episode felt like a blast from the past all the same. There was a lot to enjoy in this episode, as it once again stayed as close to the human world as it has ever had. That’s how you usually know an episode will be a good one.

It started as the last one ended, as Emi discovered that she had a mother she never knew about. This show hinted at this story twice before, once when we found out that Emi was a half-angel and next when she and Alas Ramus met a weird woman in the amusement park. Emi rediscovering her angelic roots while escaping the grasp of the church certainly sounds like an interesting arc for her as a character. Let’s hope that the show is able to make it interesting and unpredictable, unlike some of its other plotlines.

After that phone call, we went straight into one of the classic Maou and Ashia squabbles about running their demon households. Their conversation was highly fluid, natural, and entertaining, and the show made sure to have them follow their basic nature in a way that made a lot of sense with their current predicament. What is that predicament, you ask? Well, it was about whether Maou could afford a TV for the household with his part-time pay. This is exactly the kind of slice of life that I want from the show, and I am thankful we got to see it again. The show can be very charming at times, and this was one of those times.

There is another thing brewing with the angel who attacked early on in this season, wanting to nab Alas Ramus and Emi’s sword for himself. The usual suspect, Lucifer, was obviously his first target for employing his divide and conquer rule. This led to an extremely weird yet entertaining conversation about NEETs and their role in society, alongside the levels of being a NEET. Lucifer was the worst one (his words, although you better believe that I agree), but his role was a surprisingly nuanced one for once.

The story of this season is splintering apart into multiple different segments that do not share much of a connection with each other. Some slice-of-life shows make a living from this kind of storytelling, but Maou-sama isn’t the best at connecting the non-essential plotlines with the essential ones. A lot of this show looks skippable despite not being that way, which shouldn’t be the case with any show. Still, this was a neat little episode in a neat little sequel that is headed towards a neat little finale. Hard to ask for more without looking like a stickler.
Verdict
The Devil Is A Part-Timer Season 2 Episode 10 was a great episode that featured some top-tier slice of life which harkened back to the show’s glory days.
