The Crystal Cuckoo Ending Explained
Netflix’s atmospheric six-episode thriller is rooted in grief and the desperate need for attention and follows a young woman who, trying to find her heart donor’s family, stumbles upon a dangerous conspiracy. The thriller ends on a deeply emotional and unsetlling unravelling of generational secrets as a labyrinth of crimes wash up the more Clara delves into the truth.
The final brings everything full circle after a look into Carlos’s life introduces Clara to his father and his uncle’s sudden disappearances, along with several other people who have simply vanished into thin air. The series is quite straightforward and the secrets pour out from the fourth episode itself, but it leaves us guessing, wondering what comes next for this sleepy town. Clara’s journey ties the series’ emotional threads to its central mystery and ends on a note that is both cathartic and haunting.

Who have been causing the disappearances in the town?
Most of the disappearances in town were of young woman who seemingly went missing out of the blue, except for Miguel and Gabriel. In the past, Miguel has always been doubtful of Gabriel’s true nature and was almost certain that it was him who has been causing these incidents and has been killing women because of his disturbing outlook. This notion is solidified for the audience when we see Rafa, as a young boy, stumbling upon his uncle murdering a young woman in his cabin.
As it turns out, Rafa always knew his uncle’s depraved nature and has been influenced by him and the two of them have been saving each other’s backs for years now. It’s a disturbing and disgusting revelation that will leave viewers devastated.

Why did Rafa take part in the cover up?
Rafa has been moulded and brainwashed by Gabriel for years with his depraved actions and thoughts and, thus, he is unable to let him get into trouble. Thus, when Miguel finds out about Gabriel, Rafa kills his best friend to save his disturbed uncle. In a surprising twist, in episode 5, we see him turning into his uncle slowly, as he, too, attacks and kills a young woman for his own benefit.

What happens to Clara in the end?
In spite of being an outsider, Clara can’t help but stay out of the town’s issues as she finds one thread after another tying Carlos and his family with everything. When she stumbles upon Gabriel in town, she, thus, immediately recognises him from Carlos’s notes on the disappearances and follows him. She is eventually kidnapped by him but is able to flee, running into Rafa and Juan on the way to freedom. Rafa, in order to save himself, kills his uncle who has become too much of a loose canon at this point.

With everything done and dusted, Clara gets ready to go home but is shocked when she overhears Gabriel’s pet name for Rafa, eaglet, that she had heard while in the cabin. With no other option to hide, Rafa spills the truth to Carla and Marta about Miguel and Sylvia, but is too coward to take his own life. Marta eventually takes his life and frames it self defence, ending the reign of terror once and for all.
Carla eventually leaves, satisfied having made new friends and helped Marta and the others rid of a terrible curse.
