In the first film, The Accountant, Affleck’s Christian Wolff was a high-functioning autistic man who worked for dangerous criminal organisations as a freelance accountant. However, Wolff wasn’t like any other accountant out there — he had military-grade combat training and a razor-sharp mind that operated at lightning speed, turning him into an unlikely action hero with a mix of different specialists. It was a hit for all the right reasons, grossing $155.2 million at the Box Office on a budget of $44 million and earning praise from all quarters for mixing cerebral intrigue with heart-thumping action in all the right ways.

Thus, to top off this huge film would definitely be a challenge for the makers who need to go the extra mile to give us everything we loved about the first film and add a fresh twist to it. And the trailer makes it seem like all of our hopes and dreams are about to come true! In the trailer, we start off with Wolff, in his usual chaotic but sweet manner, going on a speed dating event after reverse engineering their algorithm. The light-hearted, quirky moment, however, soon turns serious when the focus shifts to Wolff’s job.

Marybeth asks him to finish the job that he started, which makes us jump immediately into a thrilling ride through a twisted game. As a result, Christian calls his brother Braxton to help him solve the case, which also gives rise to some hilarious moments between the two. If done right, The Accountant 2 can build a smart and sensitive franchise that is quite different from other films in the genre. Having a neurodivergent protagonist in an action film isn’t usually heard of, but Affleck and O’Connor have brought something unique and likeable through this franchise that has struck a chord with the viewers. It’s been able to strike the right balance, and thus, fans are quite excited to see the finished product on screen!

Gavin O’Connor is also back in the director’s chair, with Bill Dubuque returning as the writer. The film will be produced by Ben Affleck, Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams, with music by Bryce Dessner. O’Connor brought a grounded authenticity with the first film in the midst of a crowded genre, and the cars blowing up. Hopefully, the director is able to hold on to the emotional depth and stylistic flair that separated the first film from its contemporaries.
