Sweet Home Season 3 Ending Explained
Sweet Home Season 3 begins with Hyun-soo attempting to save Yi-kyung, who has fully transformed into a monster. He enters her mind to bring her back, but in the process, his own body’s monster takes complete control of him. Eun-yu stays by his side, with support from Park Chan-yeong, as they try to prevent him from succumbing to the beast inside him. When Hyun-soo faints after saving Yi-kyung, she is shocked to realize she is still human. Eun-yu explains that Hyun-soo saved her and is the only one capable of saving everyone. As Yi-kyung recovers, she plans to go to the stadium to find her monster daughter, knowing her daughter can easily turn everyone into monsters.
Meanwhile, Pyeon Sang-wook meets Dr. Lim, who reveals his true identity as Seo Yi-kyung’s fiancé, Nam Sang-won. Sang-wook explains how his experiments on Sang-won led to his transformation into a monster. Now, Pyeon Sang-wook’s body is weakening, and he needs a new one. He plans to take his daughter’s body, as she is one of the strongest monsters and heads to the stadium with his other special infected.

At the stadium, Sergeant Tak struggles to maintain control over the survivors despite showing symptoms of infection. Sergeant Kim tries to save his men from the monsters but fails, encountering Lee Eun-hyuk, who has emerged from his cocoon. Eun-hyuk explains that he is now a “neo-human,” the final stage of monsterization, immune to death. He believes he can help end the monsterization, and Sergeant Tak takes him to the stadium where the special infected are. Along the way, Eun-yu reunites with her brother Eun-hyuk, who shows no emotions due to his neo-human state, despite retaining his memories.
After a brief confrontation, Hyun-soo and Eun-hyuk decide to work together to end the monsters. As they return to the stadium, Eun-yu starts hearing things and decides to rest, urging the others to go ahead.
Did Cha Hyun-soo Defeat the Monsters?
As Cha Hyun-soo and Lee Eun-hyeok make their way to the stadium, a dramatic shift has already occurred. By the time they arrive, Nam Sang-won has possessed Ah-yi’s body, becoming significantly stronger in the process. Nam Sang-won confronts Hyun-soo and reveals the horrifying truth: he has killed Ah-yi’s mother. During this encounter, Nam Sang-won communicates with Hyun-soo, making it clear that Ah-yi’s body has been taken over by a malevolent force rather than her own will.
Determined to save Ah-yi and eliminate the monster, Hyun-soo attempts to delve into her mind. Within this mental space, he encounters Nam Sang-won, who introduces himself as both Ah-yi’s father and the very monster Hyun-soo has been pursuing for so long.

As the battle intensifies, Hyun-soo and Eun-hyeok confront the monstrous entity possessing Ah-yi. Eun-hyeok, in his desperation, wants to end Ah-yi’s suffering by killing her, but Hyun-soo desperately tries to prevent him from doing so. Eun-hyeok eventually fires a weapon, hitting the possessed Ah-yi. At this critical moment, Ah-yi instructs the monster to flee, which it does. Eun-hyeok pursues the escaping monster while Hyun-soo tries to tend to Ah-yi, who is now mortally wounded and bleeding. Despite her injuries, she is relieved that her suffering might soon end. As a slime monster emerges to cover her wound, it is unfortunately too late to save her.
Meanwhile, an ice monster blocks the exit to the stadium. Courageously, one of the girls manages to peek through, prompting the monster to allow the survivors to leave, except for the remaining monsters. The survivors begin to evacuate one by one, but when it comes to Jae-Jin, he is denied an exit. Jae-Jin ends up fighting Kim Young-Hu, who attempts to drown the remaining survivors in poisonous sludge. In a heroic act, Ha-Ni sacrifices herself to help the last of the survivors escape before succumbing to the poison. Young-Hu, realizing his impending doom, places a bomb in the monster’s mouth and manages to escape just before both the monster and himself are consumed in the explosion.

Following this tragic event, Hyun-soo embarks on a mission to eliminate anyone the monster’s essence has possessed. Eun-hyeok proposes a drastic measure: allowing the monster to enter his body so he can incinerate it from within. Hyun-soo, however, refuses to accept this plan. Ultimately, the monster’s essence returns to Sang-wook, who still retains a fragment of his soul. In a final act of self-sacrifice, Sang-wook throws himself into the fire, destroying both himself and the monster in one last, desperate effort.
With the ordeal finally over, Hyun-soo and Eun-hyeok prepare to part ways. Hyun-soo inquires about the whereabouts of his sister, but the question remains unanswered. As they go their separate paths, Eun-hyeok clings to an old family photo, remembering the advice given to him: that he might still recover his emotions if he holds onto his memories.
Chan-Yeong and Hyun-soo lead the remaining survivors to a new refuge, where they are joyously reunited with their families. As the team discusses their next move, they decide to expand their search parameters, and together, they set out towards a new destination, hopeful for the future.

What Happened to Lee Eun-yu?
In the dramatic climax, Eun-Yu returns to their old residence—a once-familiar green house apartment. It is here that she begins the harrowing transformation into a monster. Overwhelmed by the intense process, she is beset by a feverish delirium, during which she envisions her brother comforting her. In this poignant vision, she sobs uncontrollably, finding solace in his embrace.
As the final monster falls, Cha Hyun-soo manages to reverse the transformation for many of the creatures, returning them to their human forms. In a reflective voiceover, Hyun-soo acknowledges the harsh reality that not everyone could be saved—many had to perish. Yet, he expresses a bittersweet satisfaction in being able to restore some of them, including Eun-hyeok. This suggests that Hyun-soo has succeeded in conveying the essence of human emotions to Eun-hyeok.

The scene shifts to a rooftop where Hyun-soo and Eun-hyeok stand together, clinging to hope as they wait for Eun-Yu. They gaze upward and see a figure that seems to be her. Eun-Yu appears serene and walks away from them, leaving a sense of unresolved anticipation. In a poignant voiceover, Eun-hyeok reflects, We all need a place to wait and somewhere to return to.” The series concludes with a touching scene: both Hyun-soo and Eun-hyeok share a hopeful smile as they look up at the figure of Eun-Yu. Eun-hyeok’s final words underscore the significance of their haven, as he reveals that the name of their refuge is Sweet Home.
Sweet Home 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
