Summer Time Render Episode 2 Review- The Most Interesting Anything

Island Summer Time Render Episode 2

The twist that bookended the pilot episode of this show was a Groundhog Day reveal. As if the inherent mystery of the shadows and murders wasn’t enough, we got treated to one of the medium’s best plot points ever, cementing this show is one to look out for. In case you didn’t know, Groundhog Day comes from a movie of the same name, which saw Robin Williams’ character being stuck in a single day that repeated an infinite number of times. This has become an entire genre of its own, with several mediums using this formula to great success, including anime such as Re: Zero, Erased, and Haruhi Suzumiya.

However, all of these anime have a different take on the formula, and they all do it justice in their own manner. It is a hard story to get right, as it can be hard to make repeat viewings of the same material to be interesting. However, those shows, alongside the one we are watching right now, are able to create gripping narratives out of the Groundhog Day-style of storytelling. If you think about it, it is a crime that this isn’t used even more than it already is, since almost every time we have seen it used has seemingly turned out fantastic.

Sorrow Summer Time Render Episode 2

Fantastic is just the right word to use when describing what this show has been able to accomplish in just two episodes. The world that it is set in feels alive and scary in the most exciting manner possible. The plot is moving along at a nice pace, as Shinpei has proven himself to be a more than capable enough protagonist to handle a situation as dire as this. He is more in control than we first thought him to be, and it is intriguing to watch him discover everything about the island alongside us.

The series is also quite bloody and gory, which aids the uneasy atmosphere and death filled environment quite a bit. There were some concerns about the anime adaptation and whether it will be able to translate the exact nature of the manga, but those concerns were ill-found. OLM has done an excellent job with the soundtrack and the animation, both of which are top-notch. The animation, in particular, looks breathtaking and movie quality and would have taken an inordinate amount of effort to get just right. The outlines and the shading stand out as highlights of the animation.

The characters, apart from the main man Shinpei haven’t been explored yet, but there is plenty of time left for that to happen. He has complex relationships with everyone on that island and is the only one witness to all the weird and deadly events surrounding it. Ushio and Mio are great characters to base a show like this around, and despite her death, Ushio still seems to be playing a huge part in the events of Summer Time Render Episode 2. Let’s hope that the following episodes are as good as those that started it all.

Verdict

Summer Time Render Episode 2 was a fantastic continuation of the groundwork that the first episode built, and the series looks to be getting more mysterious by the day. Let’s hope next week is as good as this one!
