Study Group Ending Explained: As the season of Hwang Min-hyun’s latest Kdrama comes to an end, we need a little more clarity on how things come to an end and if there is going to be a season 2. With many unanswered questions, the swiftness of the final episode, and more, here’s an answer to most of the questions that are now lingering in the air for fans of the show.

Study Group (스터디그룹) follows a student who wants to be good at studying but is only good at fighting. He later forms a study group at the worst school in town and begins his journey towards the dreaded college entrance exams. With some action and some thrill, this show is set to be an entertainer unlike any other.

Study Group Ending Explained

In the final episode of the show, we see Han-ul ready to attack Hye-gyeong as she pushes forward with the meeting. Meanwhile, the study group is also ready to save their beloved teacher so that she can proceed with the meeting smoothly. On the other hand, Hye-gyeong is also ready to go through anything to get the evidence she needs, even if it means entering the lion’s den.

As she enters the school a night before the meeting on the vice-principal’s call, she prepares herself for unexpected trouble by putting on a secret recording device. This later comes in handy when the vice-principal runs away and she is surrounded by Han-ul, Min-hwan and their men.

Why Did Hye-gyeong Come to the School?

On the night before the meeting, the vice-principal calls Hye-gyeong telling her that he wishes to confess everything he knows about the ongoing corruption inside the school and the YB Group. Unable to let go of this chance, she makes her way to the school after a quick meeting with Detective Na who is standing outside the school for her safety. Soon, she makes her way to the vice-principal and gets the evidence recorded on her phone which will help her with the upcoming meeting. However, things soon go downhill when a sudden power cut and the vice-principal running away leaves her in confusion.

What Happens to Hye-gyeong?

Seeing the vice-principal runaway, she knows that she is now in trouble and tries to escape from there. However, she is stopped by Han-ul, Min-hwan, and two more men who block her way. Min-hwan takes away the phone from her hand which she held as evidence and prepares to teach her a lesson. However, Hye-gyeong isn’t ready to back down and tells Han-ul that he still has a chance to change, but he indirectly confesses his hand in Jeong-hwa’s death.

As they begin to approach her, a sudden voice shouts at them from the intercom and it is none other than Hee-won. And right then, Ga-min arrives with Sun-cheol and the other group members. Ga-min tells Lee Jun to escape with Hye-gyeong while he handles Han-ul.

What is the Result of the Fights that Erupt?

While Ga-min holds Han-ul back, the others rush out with Hye-gyeong while Min-hwan and the others follow them. On one floor, Sun-cheol and Ji-u come face to face with the men following Min-hwan while on another floor, Se-yeong takes over fighting Min-hwan. Meanwhile, Lee Jun finally reaches the last floor but is blocked from helping Hye-gyeong any further when his old friend Anti arrives in front of him.

The study group members are in for an intense fight, as they take over someone they once feared or awaited fighting all this while. Lee Jun finally gets to beat his old friend who is now long gone and is no longer the one in his memory. Se-yeong uses his endurance and soon shows the result of Ga-min’s mother’s training that he went through before today. With this, he gets over his fears and beats Min-hwan.

Meanwhile, Ji-u and Sun-cheol team up and make an unexpected duo, who know how to fight together. With this, they beat the men in front of them and show us the team that they have become. Finally, Ga-min and Han-ul have the face-off that they both had been waiting for all this while. As the two get into an intense fight, they both show their strengths, but Han-ul realises that Ga-min is holding back.

He then begins to instigate Ga-min and tells him that he won’t be able to save Hye-gyeong even if he beats him here. This makes Ga-min wary and he quickly tries to end the fight despite his broken knee. Using another one of his Uncle’s Forbidden Techniques, he finally takes down Han-ul. However, he is no longer able to gather the strength to follow Hye-gyeong.

Finally, Hye-gyeong is able to make her way out of the school but a barrier of Han-ul’s men awaits her. With no way of getting out, she is about to give up when Hee-won arrives with students of the school and those from the reform centre. Together, they fight the men sent by Han-ul and save Hye-gyeong.

Is Han-ul Really Behind Jeong-hwa’s Death?

While the rumours state that Han-ul is behind Jeong-hwa’s death, it is clear that there is more to him than we think. In episode 9, we see that Han-ul’s father is more dangerous than anyone we know and there is a chance that he was the one who “took care” of the problem Jeong-hwa brought to him. This points to the probability that the real culprit is someone more powerful than Han-ul.

Later in episode 10, we also see Jeong-hwa’s son Geon-yeob accepting an invitation from YB Group. Knowing that he is trying to get revenge for his mother, there is a chance that he knows of this probability and is now looking for the real culprit.

Does Han-ul Get Punished? How?

The meeting is finally held and Han-ul is expelled from the school. But it doesn’t end here as Detective Na arrives with an arrest warrant after getting the evidence submitted by Hye-gyeong. The recording clearly shows Han-ul accepting his hand in Jeong-hwa’s case which gives Detective Na a chance to take him for further investigation.

Will There Be a Study Group Season 2?

There is definitely a lot more to happen in this show, and we know that things aren’t going to end any time soon. Ga-min is yet to graduate and go to college, Han-ul’s case is yet to be solved and I don’t think he is going to stay expelled so easily, Geon-yeob is also looking for revenge and making a dangerous move. There is too much happening in the final episode of the season making it clear that another season is surely going to happen. Then there is also the Webtoon which has a lot more chapters to be covered, so there is surely to be another season.

But the real question remains- when will we get a Study Group Season 2? While there is no news at the moment on the same, we can expect something soon looking at the popularity of the show. So until we get some news, let’s wait with patience and hope the show makes its return soon.
