Spider-Man: No Way Home: Benedict Cumberbatch Teases ‘Lots of Debate’ On The Film

Benedict Cumberbatch will appear as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange in Tom Holland starrer Spider-Man: No Way Home. Last year, the trailer for the upcoming MCU movie was dropped, which received a great response and even broke Avengers: Endgame’s record with maximum views in 24 hours. The trailer has teased with the multiversal mess and return of iconic villains.

In the trailer, Tom’s Peter Parker seeks help from Doctor Strange to wipe people’s memory of him being Spider-Man. Unfortunately, the spell backfires, leading to the opening of multiverses. It brings in a lot of trouble and several big villains from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man movie return, or we’re at least teased with the hints.

If Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer was not enough to excite us for the film, Benedict Cumberbatch’s latest statement has made us impatient. The What If actor says that the film will lead to many debates in interaction with the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast. Benedict said, “Yeah, [Spider-Man: No Way Home] will be a lot, a lot of fun. There will be a lot of debate about it, I’m sure, but it’s a daring, brilliant concept.”

The actor added, “It has got great ambition. I haven’t seen it, but by all accounts I think it’s achieved it. And I mean, even on paper, the audacity of it, like, ‘How the hell is that gonna work?’ Also, so excited about the overall opportunity of them exploring those ideas. So yeah, I’ll be really interested to see how it comes out. But I’m pretty certain it’ll be a hit.”

The Sherlock actor was further told how Tom Holland said it would be the most ambitious standalone superhero movie. Does Cumberbatch agree? He quips, “Until Doctor Strange 2… Throwing it down, Tom! But yeah, for now, it will do..”

Spider-Man: No Way Home also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Alfred Molina, JK Simmons, Jon Favreau and Angourie Rice. The film is slated to release during Christmas this year.

Meanwhile, Cumberbatch is currently busy with the promotions of his upcoming movie The Power of The Dog.
