Spider-Man: No Way Home: Andrew Garfield Reveals He Suggested Pointing Meme Scene, Fans React

Andrew Garfield leaves no chance to win people’s hearts in the last few months. Last year, he made people fall in love with his remarkable performance in Tick Tick Boom. If that wasn’t enough, he successfully convinced most of us that he is not in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He denied the news in every interview, talk show, or podcast with enough confidence. Now, the actor revealed that it was his idea to have the Peter Parker/Spidey pointing meme scene.

If you are a Spider-Man fan or a meme lover, you must have seen a picture of 2 or 3 Spideys pointing at each other. When the concept of the multiverse was confirmed in No Way Home, a lot of fans hoped that MCU would give them the iconic pointing meme scene. Well, Garfield just revealed in a podcast about how it happened and how he pitched the idea in the lab scene. The scene features Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon along with Garfield.

On The Happy Sad Confused podcast, Andrew Garfield said it took them a while to decide how to play it with Peter 1, Peter 2 and Peter 3. The actor shares, “I remember having a lightning bolt and running into set and telling [director] Jon [Watts], ‘I got it, I got it.’Cause there’s this moment where Jacob is like, ‘Hey Peter?’ and we all go, ‘Yeah?’ But in the script, it was like, that was that. We all go ‘Yeah?’ and in the script, my Peter says, ‘This isn’t going to get old at all,’ like something kind of sardonic – which felt kinda undercutting and not quite right for the moment because it’s cute.”

He adds, “It’s actually kinda cute. So then we were thinking I could say, ‘Aw, this is adorable. We’re so adorable. God, we’re cute.’ Something like that. But then I was like, no, this is the moment where we get to go, ‘Do you mean me?’ Jon was like, ‘That’s it. That’s it. Done.’ I was so happy that worked.” Fans are happy that Garfield suggested the idea of how they can add this iconic meme to the film. They’ve taken to Twitter to praise the actor.
