Shadow and Bone Season 2: Interesting and Intense

The madness of Grishaverse is real and you can understand it very well with the way Shadow and Bone Season 2 is being received. The series has done a tremendous job when it comes to taking it up a notch and really focusing on the dark and solid elements of Bardugo’s books that make it a fan favourite.

As we know from the last season, The Crows are heading a different way and Alina and Mal are heading a different way, with the latter being in hiding due to the chaos that the title of the Sum Summoner brings. The second season starts without missing a beat, where we see Kaz, Jesper and Inej go back to Ketterdam. However, the place is not as they left it with Pekka Rollins now the boss of the Crow Club. The cherry on top is that all three of them are now wanted murderers for a crime they are not even involved in! Talk about being away for too long!

Things are completely different on the other side of Ravka, with Alina and Mal still in hiding. The Darkling is well and alive and, due to the amplifier connection that was formed between Alina and the Darkling in the last season, there are remains that keep them both connected making the hiding time difficult as it is.

The two meet privateer Sturmhond and his allies, who share the same purpose as Alina and Mal- Destroy the Darkling and, subsequently the Fold. They team up together to look for what forms one of the most significant plotlines of this season: to find the sea whip and the firebird, the other two amplifiers that will help Alina defeat Kirigan once and for all. The Crows also join hands with Wylan and heartrender Nina Zenik to help each other out in their respective battles.

Shadow and Bone Season 2: Final Thoughts

After a rollercoaster ride of eight episodes, it does get a lot to wrap your head around. However, the way the multiple narrative aspects seamlessly blends into telling a story that is grand, dark and beautiful is what makes Shadow and Bone stand out. Much like the first season, the makers have done a near-perfect job when it comes to taking the story out of the books and putting it on our screens. Yes, there are certain changes but, only the necessary ones.

One of the most intriguing factors that make season two better than season one is the way the character development works to make you root for and hate multiple characters all at the same time. With a villain as grey as the Darkling, it is only a treat how things unfold. Moreover, the visuals are stunning and the style that unravels it all is excellent.

You can watch Shadow and Bone Season 2 now streaming on Netflix.
