Prey Ending Explained: Is Naru Successful In Defeating the Predator?

The 2022 film Prey seems to have resurrected the Predator franchise. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison, the film is produced by John Davis, Marty P. Ewing, John Fox and Jhane Myers under the banner of 20th Century Studios and Davis Entertainment.

The movie stars Amber Midthunder as the protagonist Naru- a young Comanche warrior woman along with Dakota Beavers as Taabe and Dane DiLiegro as the Predator. Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush and Julian Black Antelope are also part of the cast. The film has a runtime of 99 minutes.

A prequel to The Predator movie franchise, Prey is set years before the events of the first Predator movie, introducing us to the technologically advanced beast for the first time. The film serves as an interesting foundation for the franchise to lean on and not only gives us a satisfying end but a post-credit scene that links it directly to another Predator movie.

Prey Ending Explained

Towards the end of Prey, the final battle enrages between Naru and the Predator. She is joined by her brother, Taabe in this fight, who unfortunately does not survive. Naru only slightly escapes from the deadly grips of the beast and schemes a plan to take it down.

She uses one of the French fur trappers by whom she was kidnapped as the bait to lure the Predator in. Naru uses a special pistol, given to her by the trappers for her to save herself from the Predator, to install a moon-roof at the back of the beast’s head. Another significance of this special pistol is that it is the same one from Predator 2 that Danny Glover receives after killing the Predator in that film, almost 300 years later.

Meanwhile, before the final battle, we also see Naru steal the helm of the Predator. The alien chases her down and Naru attacks it from above after the moon-roof had already injured it a little.

Eventually, she drives it to the swap and ends up killing it using its own bone helm. She returns to her tribe victorious and is crowned the war chief.

However, that’s not all as the film ends with an end credits scene that can serve as good fodder for a sequel. As the credits roll, we witness paintings depiction the events of the film and, in the end, after Naru’s victory, we see more Predators making their way to the Comanche tribe to seek vengeance.
