Netflix is on a roll with releasing content catering to different sections of people. And the newest addition to this bandwagon is the Pokemon universe. Yup, a CGI fuelled animated version of our all-time favorite Pokemons are coming to the digital platform next month.
Titled Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution, it’s a remake of the 1998 film which follows Ash and his friends on a quest against the legendary human-made pokemon, Mewtwo. The story features the original trio, Ash, Brock, and Misty along with Team Rocket and lots of clones. The first trailer follows much of the original movie’s premise, with the creation of Mewtwo to the trainer competition that puts Ash and his friends on the path of the conflict.
The original movie and anime were a huge success, so much so that Pokémon Go, a mobile game, was released in 2016 to raving reviews from fans all over the world. With that being said, the CGI animation might catch fans of the original a bit off-guard, because let’s face it, it is a bit jarring. Much like 2019’s Pokemon Detective Pikachu, which made fans quite uncomfortable with its hyper-realistic depiction of the furry creatures everyone has come to love.
Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution released in Japan in July 2019 and will be available to fans all over the world on Netflix on February 27, 2020.
A new anime short series, Pokemon: Twilight Wings, is also available right now.
