If you thought the last episode was bad, Platinum End Episode 12 is going to come across as a huge shock to you in just how worse this series can get. Even hate-watching doesn’t seem enough at this point. Let’s just get to the review.
Platinum End Episode 12 Overview
Platinum End comes to us by the writers and creators of Death Note and Bakuman, Takeshi Obata and Tsugami Ohba. As if that wasn’t enough reason to get excited about this show, it is being directed by two prominent people in the anime industry. As it is a two-cour series, its first part is being directed by Hideya Takahashi, who has previously directed JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5. The second part is directed by Kazuchika Kise, the animation director behind Your Name and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
The series is being produced by Studio Signal.MD, the studio behind several well-known anime such as Recovery of an MMO Junkie and Mars Red. If you’d like to catch up on our review of the eleventh episode, you can do so right here!

Platinum End Episode 12 Review: I Hate This So Much
Our list of worst anime of this year just came out. Platinum End probably deserved to be on that list more than every other anime on there, except for maybe the top one. A technicality saved it, and I still regret not bending the rules to put it there. If anything, this episode of Platinum End was bad enough to put this show under contention for the worst anime of the decade, if not century. This episode was so bad it made me hate one of my favourite superheroes of all time, Batman.
Batman has a rule of not killing people no matter who they are and what they do. I had never stopped to give it much thought, but it is an exceptionally dumb rule considering most of the time, the people he spares go on to kill many more people who would still be living had Batman grown up and taken some responsibility for his actions. I’m not so sure I like Batman anymore. You see, Batman is cool enough to make this big blunder not that big of a deal when he does it. On the other hand, Mirai Kakehashi is the stupidest character ever to grace an anime, and he destroys any good this philosophy ever had.
Mirai is dumb, careless, stupid, whiny, brainless, annoying, and every other name under the sun you want to call him. He’ll sit there and take all this too because he probably thinks that saying all this to him makes you happy, and everyone deserves happiness. I hate hearing happiness so much after watching this series so much I don’t think I ever want to be happy anymore. It doesn’t seem worth it.
The show keeps putting itself into weird and inescapable positions that it didn’t need to invent in the first place. Then it pulls another explanation the audience didn’t know about out of its ass and expects a pat on the head and a “Good Job, Platinum End“. Well, I see right through you, Platinum End Episode 12. I see just how bad you really are. I see just how many mistakes you make with your characters and your story, and I know most of the viewership sees that as well. We are on to you, and we’ll still keep watching because it is fun to see just how bad things can go.
Watching this episode was just a fruitless endeavour that didn’t accomplish anything whatsoever. The plot was just as stupid as it always is, the characters were even worse somehow, and the animation didn’t do the show any favours whatsoever. There is at least one silver lining to all this- the soundtrack is still good and remains the show’s only redeeming quality, but I’m not sure for how long that’ll stay. A new cour is coming up, which usually means new opening and ending themes. Is the show about to lose the one thing it had going for it?
Platinum End Episode 12 was mind-numbingly awful, but not in a way that anybody can find enjoyable. This might just be the worst show of this year and the next one.
