-Pinata Masters Review Does Not Contain Any Spoilers-
Piñata masters! is a competition show in which 7 super creative pairs will demonstrate their skills to create the most beautiful and fun piñatas to win a cash prize. Inspired by a special theme in each episode, the competitors will have to surprise a very demanding jury… made up of children! In the end, only one team will be honoured with the title of “Piñata Heroes.”

The show consists of 7 teams who are labelled with different colours. Team yellow consists of Edrei Pop and Pegu, Team Orange has Rosita and Brittani, Team Red is made up of Bachurito and Vania, Team Purple includes Josel and Jorge, Team Green has Alejandro and Emanuel, Team Blue has Talia and Cesar and lastly Team Pink includes Yami and Remi.
The rules are simple, every episode has a theme according to which the teams have to create their Pinatas. They are given 8 hours to sketch, build and shape the complete product. However, the material inventory is not open all the time and gets closed after some time. And it wouldn’t be a reality competition if there wasn’t a surprise element that’s introduced in the middle of the making process.

The twist is introduced in the form of a surprise stick – which is usually used to break the pinata. The stick contains special rules like the pinata should be of this much weight or add another element in it etc. After each challenge, they are judged by the kids, who are very particular about what they want and see every detail carefully.
Out of the teams, one team is given the first prize and they get the special stickers that will bring them closer to the finals, while another team gets eliminated – in each episode. The ultimate winner of the show will be taking away 1 million Pesos. The race gets off to a tasty start as the seven teams create piñatas portraying their favourite Mexican foods. Similarly, the next episode is about the Day of the Dead, or creating something from their favourite TV show and more.
Also, at the end like in the cooking shows, the food is eaten by the judges – here the pinata is broken by special characters like Salva the masked man or Tino the pinata dog that eats the other pinatas. Overall, the show is a fun and interesting watch where you also get to know about the country’s culture with every episode.

It’s also nerve-wracking nonetheless as such an elaborate pinata takes at least 10 hours to a few days to take its complete shape, and to make it happen in such a short time, under much pressure is a big deal. Every team has different expertise and dynamics which often work in their favour and other times only create conflict – which is unmissable in reality competition shows.
Talking about teams, I feel like Team green had the skills but was not up to date with what’s trendy or would be a hit with the kids. Meanwhile, team orange succumbed to the pressure but the way they often walked out in the middle, was not good sportsmanship and should have come braced for any challenge. If I were to choose a winner, then I believe team yellow performed consistently well.
Summing Up: Pinata Masters
If you looking for a laidback show to watch without much thought and like art and crafts as well, then this is a perfectly entertaining show. You can watch it with kids as well and since the main judges are kids, maybe they can express their viewpoints too. The host being a comedian often tries to make jokes but the kids aren’t able to understand and the contestants are too nervous to laugh and that’s somewhat funny to watch.
Pinata Masters is currently streaming on Netflix.
