Panchayat Season 1 Recap
Abhishek Tripathi, an engineering student, fails to get a placement after his college ends. He decides to opt for a government job as a backup option. Tripathi gets the post of a Panchayat secretary in Uttar Pradesh’s Phulera village for a decent pay. Abhishek isn’t happy with the way things work in Phulera. For example, Pradhan Ji is supposed to be a woman named Manju Devi. Instead, her husband Brij Bhushan Dubey acts as the village’s Pradhan Ji. Abhishek’s office isn’t well-maintained, there’s a struggle with electricity and much more.
Even though Abhishek works as Panchayat Secretary, he doesn’t want to give up on his dreams of making it big in his life. He simultaneously prepares for his CAT exams. Along with the village problems and challenges he faces in Phulera, Tripathi takes out time to study daily. However, most of the time, Abhishek is in a grumpy and unhappy mood. There also arrives a situation where Tripathi, his assistant Vikas, Brij Bhushan and Prahlad Pandey get into a fight with some goons.
Brij Bhushan Dubey and Manju Devi have a daughter named Rinki, who is not shown in the show till the end. Manju Devi doesn’t want Abhishek to see Rinki as she worries they might fall for each other. However, in one episode, Brij Bhushan shares his concern over the dowry demand made by the guy they want his daughter to marry. The man earns a lot, and hence, he’s making such a demand. In a general conversation, Tripathi says that even if he earns a lot, he would never take dowry from the girl’s family.
Abhishek Tripathi’s words leave an impact on Brij Bhushan. He thinks that Abhishek is a better match for his daughter. The acting Pradhan Ji believes that once Abhishek passes the CAT exam, he will earn well. So, financial status is not an issue. Sadly, Abhishek couldn’t get enough marks to pass the exam.
Not being able to earn good marks leaves not only Abhishek but Pradhan Ji worried. But there’s more trouble in the last episode. For Republic Day, the real Pradhan Ji Manju Devi is supposed to hoist the Indian flag and sing the National Anthem. However, in Phulera, her husband does all of this. Even though Abhishek helps Manju Devi with flag hoisting training and helps her remember National Anthem, she doesn’t show up for the ceremony.
Everyone gets in trouble when the District Magistrate sees that the Republic Day banners have Brij Bhushan’s pictures and not the real Pradhan Ji, Manju Devi. The District Magistrate decides to fire Abhishek for letting this happen. Thankfully, Manju Devi arrives on time and hoists the flag. She forgets the National Anthem, but everyone helps her to sing it. Manju Devi even tells the Magistrate that Abhishek is a good secretary and he shouldn’t be fired.
In the end, everything ends well. Abhishek’s equation with most of them becomes friendly. He finally decides to go to the top of the big water tank to get a good view of Phullera village. Tripathi and the viewers finally get to see Rinky as she’s sitting at the tank. The first season ends by teasing us with the possibility of a love story between the two.
Panchayat Season 2 will release on Amazon Prime Video on May 20.
