– Our Beloved Summer episode 3 recap contains major spoilers –

Our Beloved Summer episode 3 starts with Ung telling the interviewer 10 reasons why he hates Yeon-su. Going through all the days of them dating, we go through all the instances when she acted stuck-up or just plain rude. And honestly, he’s right – she is quite the annoying person. But, she also has a sweet side that only Ung knows. The flip-flop moments will make you angry and happy at the same time. However, she can be extremely cruel, something that Ung makes a note of.

Walking down the road with Sol-I, Yeon-su gets a call from Ji-ung. Meanwhile, NJ gets a call from Ung. Just after the call, Ji-ung visits him to ask him to star in another documentary with Yeon-su. Ji-un explains why they want to film it again and Ung calls him a sociopath and refuses to do it. Ji-ung and Eun-ho discuss how Ung coped with the breakup and the latter asks whether Ji-ung is sure he wants Ung to go through that again.

Yeon-su and Ung both watch the old videos and reminisce about the great times that they had spent together. After going through the videos and wondering how naïve she once was, Yeon-su changes the artist’s name To Nu-a. After that, the two keep running into each other as if it’s the biggest coincidence… to the point that it’s weird. In front of a convenience store where they both go shopping, Yeon-su lets Ung know that they have chosen a new artist to replace him. However, the next day her boss lets her know that Soen Shop will cancel the contract without Ko-o.

Later that evening, Yeon-su meets Ji-ung who is trying to convince her to do the documentary. Although she is pretty sure she is turning him down, she agrees to listen to what he has to say. When his first idea doesn’t work, he starts plan B. Meanwhile, Ung has gone drinking with Eun-ho while NJ is still obsessing over why he hasn’t called her.

On his way back home after drinking, in Our Beloved Summer episode 3, Ung comes across Yeon-su. As she starts to walk away, asking him to go home safely, he holds her hand, but lets her go soon, saying that the last reason he hates her is that she removed him from her life so easily. The next day, she gets to know that Ko-o will work on the Soen Shop project, completely shocking Yeon-su.

This is when we get to learn of Ji-ung’s Plan B. Ung isn’t afraid of being in pain, as long as it means he can make someone else share that pain as well. He assures her that she will get to know what that means soon enough. As she stands outside Ung’s place and he comes out, she realises that what Ji-ung told her was the truth – his smirk is enough to prove his theory. He asks her to film the documentary and in return, he will work with her for Soen Shop.

In a flashback sequence, we see Sol-I asking Yeon-su whether she is truly ok after breaking up with her long-term boyfriend since she seems extremely calm. She puts up a brave face in front of everyone and assures them that she’s fine. In private, though, she breaks down. In front of the camera, too, she reiterates that she’s fine but somewhere, it seems disingenuous.

Final Thoughts: Our Beloved Summer episode 3

Our Beloved Summer episode 3 continues to give us feels, but kinda loses a bit of steam somewhere. I know I keep saying that it reminds me of Hometown Cha Cha Cha, and honestly, it still does. But right now, Hometown feels like a better show. Then again, we’re just at episode 3 and if The King’s Affection has taught me anything, it’s not to judge a K-drama by its first few episodes!
