One Hundred Years of Solitude Review
Based on one of the best works of Spanish Literature, One Hundred Years of Solitude promised an unforgettable experience and truly delivered what was promised. This adaptation of the novel has brought the world from this book to life as it slowly takes us on an intriguing journey through the story of the Buendía family. It beautifully shows us their premonitions and their illusions that slowly shape their lives and make them legendary figures.
The filmmakers have created magic with this adaptation and have wonderfully conquered the impossible with how stunningly it captures the essence of this masterpiece. The show captures everything that readers have felt when reading the book, only making it easier for many when the actors easily solve the confusion created by similar names. So for fans of the book and book lovers altogether, this is the kind of adaptation that makes you fall in love with filmmaking.
I loved how beautifully the show captured the essence of Columbia with the carefully selected props and costumes. It truly captures the changing times as Macondo grows into what José Arcadio Buendía once envisioned, leaving you stunned. Every little element that creates this magic is truly eye-catching as you see yourself slowly crossing the boundaries of time.

Meanwhile, we have the magical plot itself that has been leaving us amazed for decades. The magical realism of this book was already a wonder, but the way this show captures its very essence is something astounding. While many shows have tried to capture the magic realism of many other wonderful works of literature, they have failed to do what this show has done. One Hundred Years of Solitude is not just a masterpiece of pages but has now become a masterpiece on screen.
Moving on, we have to talk about the wonderful performance brought together by this immensely talented cast. They all capture the actors no matter what age they are shown, keeping a flow that is usually disrupted by the differing auras of the actors. However, in this show, you can see all the actors keeping a very steady flow as their characters grow through the ages. Be it José Arcadio Buendía through his earlier years or during his older days, his madness and charisma are both carried in a similar way by both actors.
The same goes for the actors playing the character Úrsula, Aureliano Buendía, José Arcadio, and others. They all hold a unique power on their characters, yet can keep the stability that truly keeps us engrossed in the plot despite the changing faces. I have absolutely loved this part of the show and find it hard to wait for the second part of this series.

Summing Up
One Hundred Years of Solitude is a blessing to viewers who are missing out on a timeless classic that isn’t easy to read for all. It covers the plot page by page and brings about a beautiful portrayal of magic realism that is not one you should be missing out on.
Watch One Hundred Years of Solitude on Netflix.
