Netflix’s Yeh Ballet Gets Accolades at Special Screening

Netflix hosted a special screening of Yeh Ballet for directors, along with the cast and crew of the film, on February 20, 2020. Yeh Ballet stars two newcomers, Manish Chauhan and Achintya Bose, in the lead roles along with Julian Sands, Jim Sarbh, Danish Husain, Vijay Maurya, Heeba Shah, and Kalyanee Mulay.

The film revolves around the lives of two boys from low-income families who discover ballet and try to find an escape out of their challenging lives through it. However, the unlikely duo soon finds out that escape is easier sought for than found.

Among the many people who were present at the screening were Nitya Mehra, Shonali Bose, Rohan Sippy, Hardik Mehta, Ruchi Narain and Tanuja Chandra. Speaking at the event, here are some of the things various directors had to say:

I think it’s an incredible film and I loved it, it’s therapy for the soul. From top to bottom – the writing to directing, it has wonderful leads and an incredible supporting cast and a nice uplifting story. So, to put it simply, it is just a really, really good film for me.

“I feel overwhelmed because I was with Sooni on her first film and twelve years later I am so glad that she waited and chose not to tell any other story but this one. I think it’s a beautiful story and it’s got a big heart, and I’m so glad that it has been told. The fact that it’s a true story lends a certain authenticity to it and I remember Sooni talking to me about how she was inspired by this film. The thing that will stay with me most is the story of these two boys. I honestly think I’ll keep revisiting this film.”

Film director Nitya Mehra

It’s amazing that 120 minutes went by so quickly and so smoothly. Usually, it’s sort of a struggle but this one was fabulous.

Mahesh Mathai (Film director)
