After the last episode, Hui-ju is speechless to find Woo-jae standing in front of her at the studio in Reflection of You episode 5. Hae-won lets her know that since he did not recognise her, it’s best that she acts normal in front of him. When Hui-ju enquires further, she lets her know that he was in an accident several years ago where he lost his memories. He was living in Ireland without a passport and she has just gotten him back.

Hae-won says that she is fascinated how he is still the same Woo-jae and then notes that Hui-ju had also stayed in Ireland. In a flashback, Hui-ju remembers the time spent with Woo-jae in Ireland. She was married to Hyeon-seong on whom she was cheating with Woo-jae. When Woo-jae tells her to leave Hyeon-seong, she promises to do so and that night, she takes Ho-su and leaves.

When Woo-jae goes out for some air, Hui-ju follows him and asks him why he’s doing all of this in Reflection of You episode 5. Woo-jae looks dazed and before he can counter Hui-ju’s accusations, he passes out on her. When he comes to, he asks her whether he has done something wrong. She is confused, and just then Hae-won comes up to them and takes Woo-jae. She further instructs Hui-ju to talk to her if she needs him.

In another flashback, Hui-ju rushes around trying to find Woo-jae. However, she is unable to do so after she cannot get into the hospital. However, Hae-won sees her attempt and looks rather concerned. We then see Hae-won’s perspective, when Woo-jae had called him. Heartbroken, she accused him of abandoning her but when he promises to tell her everything, she asks him when he will meet her.

Meanwhile, Hui-ju is losing her mind over everything. She is further concerned when Li-sa tells her in the morning over breakfast that she and Ju-yeong will also go to the exhibition. When asked how, she says that Hae-won had given Ju-yeong tickets and asked her to come with Li-sa. Hui-ju tells her not to go, but Li-sa pushes back since Hae-won has already apologised. Li-sa is adamant on going.

Later, Hui-ju goes to the hospital to enquire about Woo-jae in Reflection of You episode 5. However, the hospital still refuses to give her any information. In her husband’s car, she sees that the last place Hyeon-seong went to was questionable. She follows suit and ends up at the bar when he and Hae-won had the conversation last time. However, the owner is not able to help her in any way.

At the same time, Hae-won and Woo-jae go to see his doctor to know about his memory issues. However, the doctor, Min-seo, lets them know that there’s nothing that they can do about it since memory loss from trauma is best treated within 2 years of the trauma. Since he’s not within that window anymore, it can go either way. Woo-jae gets frustrated and leaves, and Min-seo lets Hae-won know that he should see a psychiatrist at the hospital since it might help him.

Hae-won next asks her whether she should tell him what happened in the past since Woo-jae keeps asking him. She also asks her whether he would believe even false memories if she tells him. Min-seo says that since a part of his life is blank at the moment, it is very easy to manipulate that part since he will believe her words. This makes Hae-won think.

After his appointment at the hospital, Hui-ju comes face to face with Woo-jae. In the elevator, Woo-jae asks her whether they met at the exhibition since she looked familiar. They talk about knowing each other and his memory loss and then Hui-ju goes off to get Woo-jae’s medical records.

Hae-won is alarmed to see Hui-ju at the hospital too and is further shocked to learn that Woo-jae left 10 minutes ago. Sun-woo tries to help her, but she’s too angry and concerned to heed anything that she says. Meanwhile, Woo-jae is standing outside looking lost and Hui-ju offers to help him get home.

In the car, she tells him that they know each other and that the two of them taught her how to draw. It is evident that Woo-jae remembers some things, but not everything. In a flashback, Hui-ju remembers Woo-jae playing this song at one of their drawing sessions. Back in the car, Woo-jae shares how he’s unhappy about relying on Hae-won for everything and that he is trying to be a good person.

When Hae-won comes back home, she is relieved to find Woo-jae at home. But when he tells her that Hui-ju was the one who told her to come home and also brought him back, Hae-won is shocked and asks him not to do that anymore. Woo-jae further lets Hae-won know that Min-seo and Hui-ju seemed to know each other which makes her even more concerned.

Later that night, Hae-won installs a tracking app on Woo-jae’s new phone. At Hui-ju’s home, she hosts a dinner that includes her husband, mother-in-law and the gallery director. It’s super awkward since Young-sun keeps making backhanded comments. However, it gets more awkward when Hae-won drops by unannounced. She thanks her for dropping Woo-jae home and gives her a package but the meeting has to be cut short when Young-sun comes over.

Out on a walk, Hae-won and Woo-jae talk about his relationship with Hui-ju. She lies and tells him that he was uncomfortable around her and that he did not directly teach her, just subbed for Hae-won. In a flashback, we see that Woo-jae really was a bit uncomfortable with Hui-ju.

Hui-ju later opens Hae-won’s gift and sees that it’s a gift for Ho-su. She immediately throws it away. Meanwhile, Hae-won’s mother is extremely angry with Hae-won for getting back together with Woo-jae. She tells her, however, that she wants to do everything that she wasn’t able to do for all these years.

It’s Friday in Reflection of You episode 5, and Li-sa and Hui-ju go to the exhibition. After dropping Li-sa off, she comes across Woo-jae who tells her that he started off late and thus wants his career to take off – he wants to be successful like her and take care of Hae-won. Hui-ju is glad to hear that and says that Hae-won will also be happy.

Li-sa catches the two at the cafeteria and looks very angry for some reason in Reflection of You episode 5. She very gruff with him and insults him and his exhibition. It’s odd, her behaviour. But I guess Hae-won has something to do with it.

Hui-ju’s exhibition goes off without a hitch and we see that one of her pieces is based on the meadow from Ireland. Basking in the glory of a successful exhibit, she and Hyeon-seong come face-to-face with Hae-won and Woo-jae who have come to congratulate her. Hyeon-seong seems to be the most surprised as he’s unable to look away from Woo-jae.

Final Thoughts: Reflection of You episode 5

Reflection of You episode 5 is still as confusing as ever. I am hopeful that the series provides a kickass explanation for all the confusion that we are being fed right now. I am thoroughly excited for the reveal because right now it’s keeping a lot of things close to its chest. I am extremely excited to know about the motivation of the acts and why everyone is behaving the way that they are.
