Netflix Autoplay is Finally Going Out to the Rejoice of Viewers

After years of complaining, it seems Netflix has finally heard the agony of its viewers. The Netflix autoplay preview feature, that people have come to despise, is finally going to be optional. Now, viewers can disable autoplay functionality.

The days of trying to shut off the preview sound, which comes as an absolute surprise and in the highest possible volume, is finally bowing out. And viewers couldn’t be happier. Because let’s face it, your cursor hovers for a nanosecond too long on a title and lo and behold, the preview beast!

People can now choose to disable the Netflix autoplay feature in two different ways:

  1. That automatically starts the next episode in a series and
  2. That autoplays previews while browsing.

Netflix had previously rolled out disabling the episode autoplay problem in 2014 (thank god). The other problem can be specifically tackled with this development.

In fact, creators and subscribers have long complained about both of these features. Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Out director Rian Johnson had once hilariously tweeted:

We feel you, Rian.

Indeed, the extent of the annoyance is such among subscribes that there are Reddit threads, YouTube videos, and, of course, angry tweets that have constantly asked Netflix to stop it with the autoplay features. One person went to the extent of opening an entire Twitter account for this purpose.

And Netflix seems to have listened. The company is pointing subscribers to an updated help page on its website so that they can, once and for all, put an end to this annoying function.

Autoplay has existed as an in-built feature since 2016 and was probably designed to keep users’ eyes glued to Netflix and off other streaming services (and, let’s be real, real life as well). If you finish watching an episode, boom! You have another playing in a matter of seconds. The same goes for the preview autoplay.

Twitter, however, preferred a life (the irony)!
