Ms Marvel is holding onto the fun rope and we are all in for it! In Ms Marvel Episode 2, we see Kamala, with the help of Bruno, trying to harness her newfound powers. The origins and meaning of what lies within the bangles remain hidden in the past that Kamala tries to unearth but, it isn’t a very successful attempt.

New things don’t stop turning up in Kamala’s life it seems. With the entry of a new boy in school, Kamran, Kamala is immediately smitten and moved by the handsome young man. Meanwhile, Special Agent Clearly continues his hunt for her. And, one perilous event puts the Department of Damage Control and our Ms Marvel in-making face to face.

Ms Marvel’s second episode stays true to its coming-of-age theme. It explores Kamala’s curiosity to find out more about her past and her powers but, it does not miss out on the teenage years’ gushy feeling of having a crush. The episode also advances in regards to showing how women are kept at the back in South Asian culture and the only way to right that wrong is to stand up for oneself (Go, Nakia!).

Ben’s crush on Kamala is visibly apparent now with the entry of Kamran but, it is also clear how Kamala really just sees Ben as her best friend. Will this change in the future given the revelation about Kamran’s identity? Well, we are going to have to wait to see how the future unfolds.

Ms Marvel Episode 2 is also able to create a friendly aura of mystery surrounding its plot, which is what will possibly keep the audiences hooked apart from the crazy-amazing animation and use of VFX. The fact that the makers will shift from the comics when it comes to the origin of Kamala’s powers was pretty apparent from the first episode but, taking it Kamala’s past and a generational secret has just made the plot more tempting.

As far as representation goes, Ms Marvel is truly killing it by being perfect to the T. From Nakia’s short monologue when Kamala asks how she makes it look easy to Muneeba’s strict but loving attitude, it all fits in well. Additionally, the use of SRK movie references and really trendy Hind-language pop songs along with the English ones gives the series a more authentic feel.

Ms Marvel Episode 2: Final Thoughts

Overall, Ms Marvel Episode 2 was a fun episode. It had a friendship, love, curiosity and mystery all packed into one. And, even with these multiple themes, the narrative did not feel rushed or too congested as the makers have taken pauses at the right time to let the scenes sink into the mind of the audience. Iman Vellani is continuing to play the 16-year-old with ease charming us through it all.
